Hello every one. I am re-new to golf. I golfed back in my high school days and have just taken it up again. Though due to a 15 year break I am calling myself a total beginer again. I have been taking pro lessons and can't wait to have an offical handicap under my belt. ~Dave M.

Hello, I got back to golf four years ago after 25 years away.  It helped to be retired with lots of time to kill.  I'm in the Berkshires formally of Longmeadow.

I'm over by Springfield myself. The Berkshires have some great courses though. I have wanted to golf the Cranwell since I was a kid.

Oh and lessons helped way more than I could have even imagines. Country Club near me has 40 minutes lessons for $30.00, not bad. Though he only holds them M-F 9-5pm. (I can take the time out from work though.)

Cranwell looks better from the road than it really is.  A better choice is Greenock CC in Lee.  It's only 9 holes, but a beautiful Donald Ross design open to the public.  Instead of turning right into the town of Lee on route 20, go straight up the hill and Greenoch is on the right.  I play at Wahconah in Dalton.

When I played golf in the 80's and lived in Longmeadow, my favorite course was Chicopee CC.  Do you play it?

I play at Holyoke CC and Cedar Knob in Somers, CT when I played in my youth I played Southampton CC a lot. I have heard Chicopee is a nice course so I need to check it out.

I am definitely going to need to take a ride out to Greenock some day. I'd love to play a Donald Ross course that's nearby and open to the public. Supposedly Donald Ross lived in Holyoke, MA for some time while designing the former Mt Tom Golf Club in Holyoke and the Orchards in South Hadley. Unfortunately they built I-91 right through the middle of the Mt Tom course. Its replacement Wyckoff Country Club has a few holes built from the Ross design.
