Where to play on Oahu, Hawaii?

Kapolei is right down the street from koolina and a better course, but koolina is good. If you want a truly unique Hawaii golf experience play Royal Hawaiian. It's cut from the jungle and you won't forget it (but bring a lot of balls). Turtle Bay Palmer is the best course on the island. If you have a military ID definitely play the Marine Base course--it has 6 ocean holes and is in great shape and only $40.

I played Turtle Bay when I was there in 2005 and would 2nd that recommendation. It was very nice and, at least back then, was reasonably priced.

If you stay at the hotel at Turtle Bay (i think it is a Westin) the course is even cheaper. Turtle Bay is a beautiful course in a beautiful setting, and hope to come back and play it again.

Bag:

DriverG25 or  XCG5 11.5* 3++ fairway wood

3w:  XCG6 15*

*5w: XCG6 18* (out if I bag my 3-iron)

Irons: Rocketbladez tour  3-pw(47*) (I sometimes bag the 3 iron but usually the 5w) 

Wedges:   SM-4  52*, 56*, 60* 

Putter:  Versa #7 (white on black)

Played koolina yesterday. Several of the greens had brown patches where it looked like they were cut too close but they still rolled well. Rest of the course was in great shape. Make your tee times well in advance though--it books up fast with Japanese tour groups.

Played Turtle Bay Palmer a few days ago. It's in awesome shape; fairways are some of the best I've ever played on. Winds have been relatively calm too--take advantage.

I played Luana Hills twice a few years back during a vacation, which is a completely different experience compared to other courses around Oahu (feels like Jurassic Park). It was a very difficult course and does require some good shot placement off the tees. The course conditions were good except for the sporadic rain you get around the mountain side.

I am very intrigued by this course.  I am hoping to return to Hawaii next year, and plan to play Turtle Bay, Poipu Beach and possibly Luana Hills or Maybe the Royal Hawaiian while I am there.  (Poipu Beach is worth the cost of a side trip to Kaui, I promise! or there may even be a ferry for way cheaper)

I was the sole comment on that same review too. LOL! On the Con side, yes you do need to bring in a few sleeves with you, possibly a dozen. After my first trip there, I had to go to the Royal Hawaiian Golf Shop (another weird coincidence) to refill on golf balls before I played there a second time.

I keep all of my wedge-scuffed Pentas (which I take out of play after 2 or 3 scuffs) in a box in the garage, and then empty it into my bag when I go to this course.  I actually hit 16 greens there about 3 months ago, which was probably the best ballstriking round I've ever had.

I played Ko Olina and Kapolei while I was in O'ahu last.  Kapolei was an amazing course and there wasn't a blade of grass out of place.  Ko Olina was ok but the proximity to houses and the roads was a turn-off for me.  Also, the greens weren't as nice as Kapolei.

definitely play the palmer course at turtle bay...  Ko'olau is also a great course....

Is the old Army/Navy course still there?  I have not been there for many years, but played that course and its only a short walk from the Arizona Memorial. Used to be a club there called "The Embers" after it had burned down and rebuilt as the 19th Pooka (sp). As I recall, it was in pretty good condition.

Navy/Marine is near the Arizona Memorial, but I wouldn't call it a "short walk". Other good military courses include Klipper at Marine Base in Kaneohe, Leilehua (Army course near Schofield), and Mamala Bay at Hickam AFB.

      Day 34 (14 Dec 25) - Got outside for a few moments to work on bump and runs with the 4h (again using the exaggerated weight shift reminder of the left (lead) heel). Finding that it helps keep the downswing arc extended.

      I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
