I just started golfing regularly and i've been using a starter set that includes a 12 degree driver, 16 degree 3W, 22 degree 7W, 3-PW, a SW plus a HLW. Now I bought two hybrids a 20 degree 3 hybrid and a 24 degree 4 hybrid. I bought them to replace the 3Iron because I just had a horrible time hitting it consistently. I wasn't sure which exactly to get so since I got a good deal to buy both and I was able to hit them both pretty well I ended up buying both of them. Now I don't know which clubs in my set I should replace I hit the 3W better than the 7 I'm ok with the 4I and like I said straight junk with the 3I so I'm hoping these clubs work to fill the gap between the 3W and the 4I? Please help this rookie out

In theory,  the 3 + 4 hybrids would replace the 3 + 4 irons - if you have just started golfing regularly, it is doubtful that a 3 iron (and maybe even the 4) will be your friends.

It is possible that the 3 hybrid could also replace the 7 wood. I know my 4 hybrid and 9 wood go about the same distance with the 9 wood having a higher ball flight, but I carry them both because sometimes one works better than the other.

I was actually able to hit the 4 pretty well but if I'm suppose to be comparing hitting that one with hittin the 4H I'm much better with the hybrid. So in theory if I would replace the 3 clubs with the 2 hybrids what would be a good way to fill the last spot in my bag?

No one can give you a hard answer on what to add for a club without knowing the lofts of your PW + SW. My first thought is to add a gap wedge (lofted between the PW + SW), when I bought my irons they came 4-GW, not 3-PW.

Honestly I would rotate out what you have, and if you are not posting scores for an official handicap - carry them all and see which clubs serve the least amount of purpose.

I'd tell you to buy a niblick, but I'd get roasted by everyone else for promoting it as a miracle club.

I'm sorry I should have mentioned the loft of my pitching wedge is 45 and for my SW it's 55. A niblick? Is that like a chipper or putting wedge?

Go with a 50* wedge. A niblick is so much more than a chipper, it is great out of deep rough. My 37* is deadly on the 40 yard *putt* and my 56 allows me to get out of most bunkers with a putting stroke. That said, they are not for everyone.

    • I would like to amend my original comment on the new Maxfli irons. Yes, $800 for forged irons is a pretty good price and they do feel good BUT...I have since found out that $800 is only for off the shelf, standard issue clubs with standard lengths, lofts, lies and shafts. Any change made from stock results in huge up-charges so that the final price ends up pretty much the same as similar forged irons from any of the major manufacturers.
    • These were almost all included on the list of Clarifications or revised Model Local Rules released just a few days ago.  I'm pretty sure the first 3 are brand new MLRs (Moved/Wrong Place, Embedded Ball in someone else's pitch mark, Internal OB applies only to tee shot) that the PGA Tour is choosing to use.  The 16.1 Rule (relief near a Putting Green) was revised allowed a Committee to give relief for more than just Immoveable Obstructions, microphone holes would be classed as GUR (a hole made by the maintenance staff).  The replacement club rule was available before, the E-3 (Lift Clean and Place distance) could have been defined as "one scorecard" before, they're just a change in how the PGA choices. Here are the January 1 Clarifications and revised MLRs https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules-hub/clarifications-of-the-rules-of-golf.html#cp
