Had been playing with an old 10* Hippo driver for the last 3 months. Usual drive was 230-260, 270 -280 if I SS it. I had hit my friends Covert on last hole one day and flat out crushed it. I knew then that I must own one. My 1st outing with it, I played my hippo and used that as my play ball and just hit the covert for practice and then picked it up. I had the buyers remorse. Was only getting about 5 yds extra with the covert. I did seem to gain 2 seconds of hangtime however. I tinkered with it and wound up with closed head and 8.5* loft. After a week of practice I felt I could actually play with it although I still need another week or two to get things centered in the fairway like the hippo. Here are the results: Hole 1: 200 yds. Pop up, Hit right side rough by 6 yds. Hit a berm next to sandtrap, and it rolled backwards and back into the fairway. Hole 2: 240 yds. Silght pull, slight pop-up, hit left side berm next to the sandtrap, hung in the thick grass. 99% carry. Hole 3: 290 yds. Slight pull, missed all the berms 10 yds left of fairway Hole 4: 290 yds. Dead center fairway. Hole 5: par 3 Hole 6: 260 yds. Went off of toe, but wound up dead center of fairway thanks to slope. Hit 2 ft on rough and rolled back in. Hole 7: 260 yds. Went off heel and had a fade tail on it. In fairway left side. Hole 8: Par 3. Hole 9: 255 yds. See hole 7. Mishits finding fairway or are real close. Anything close to a centered hit is a monster.

Having mis-hits still find the fairway is a great bonus. Being a little shorter but still on the short grass is much better than being longer and in long grass or shorter AND in the long grass.

True, but I think it is all adjustments and confidence. Was much straighter this week, but not quite there.  Will be even better when I get it straightened out and am longer in the short grass. Or even get a tail wind and end up on the super, super short grass !  Oh my !

    • Welcome back! Evolvr.com? I don't use the full extreme end of it, and that's probably dipped to 75% or so nowadays. But I use the sole more than I don't, yeah. Also… it's good to learn this shot: Middle up. Not generally outside your feet in either direction. I generally have it slightly forward of center, yeah. Short version: tip your upper body in the direction of the slope. Look at the GC3. You can find them for really good prices sometimes.
    • 3 rainouts in a row….that’s SAD Sorry, I’m in MI or I would take you up on a round.
    • Day 3:  I tried to hit a bucket at the range but an 80 year old man (he told me his age, showed me his knee replacement scars, told me all about his chronic low back pain, etc) couldn’t pass up the opportunity to mansplain to me every little thing I’m doing wrong.  Dude, it’s my third frickin day.  I know I need to twist my hips more, I know I need to keep my head/chest down and not pop up, I know I need to hit through the ball and follow through further, yada yada yada.  I know.  That’s exactly what I’m trying to work on.  How about you tell me or show me how to do those things instead of telling me to watch Iron Byron videos?  Rough day.
    • Day 132: 5/7/24 Full Speed Spectrum Training session 8/24. 7th training program overall.    Another slow session but 4 mph faster than my last session, which was my slowest ever. Going to the doctor on Friday to check on pulled neck muscle.
    • Day 26: Did full swing practice after work. First 15 balls were working on top of the backswing feel, and then tried to incorporate transition feel into the next 15 balls. A's, although this will be my last season of being a fan as they leave for Las Vegas (by way of Sacramento for a few seasons). Hard to see myself rooting for the Giants, but if that's the only MLB in the Bay Area, I guess I might get on board.
