I've been Playing Golf for: 20 years

My current handicap index or average score is: playing to around 21

My typical ball flight is: Low to mid trajectory, slight fade

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Hitting the ball fat and pushing it out left

Videos:

G'day all, I've been playing since a young kid but stopping playing for about 5 or 6 years due to work commitments, just starting to get play again after moving to Hong Kong, got the bug again in a big way, just trying to get back to decent level again.

Sorry for the dodgy iphone quality in the video...  Struggling with consistency a lot at the moment, hitting way too many fat balls and have a tendency to push the ball (likely being lazy and not coming through properly...)

Any feedback greatly appreciated!  cheers

It looks like you are standing too close to the ball but that could be from the angle of the camera.

I was thinking the same thing. May be preventing him from bringing the club back on the proper plane. I know if I tried, I'd whack my hands against my leg with my hands in that close.

Overall pretty smooth looking swing though!

I know if I get too close to the ball I tend to hit fat which is one of the misses trying to be fixed.

I seem to have fixed any issues with fat and/or topped shots, I just can't hit it straight or on the sweet spot consistently.

But yes, I agree with you boop, I'd try to keep the hands out a little more.

Guys thanks for the prompt feedback, totally agree with you!  Think the camera angle is slightly off but hands are definitely closer than they should be.  Hitting the range again tomorrow so will try to put an improved video up.  cheers

When you set up a camera, place it about 15' behind you, and down your toe line. This makes it easier to analyze the clubhead relative to your hands and body.

You actually have a lot of good things going on. For someone who stands that close, you get away with it, shockingly you don't come over the top, which is common because you crowd the ball.

A good rule of thumb is, you can fit your hand between the butt of your club and your thighs at address, you probably have 1" at most, you need about 5-6" of space there, roughly.

From this angle of the camera, it looks like you don't get the clubhead outside the hands in the downswing, which is good.

The clubhead looks good going back, not stuck behind the hands. Not sure how your hands are at impact, need a face on view for that one. That could tell us if your hands are not foward enough (flat left wrist), and if that is the cause of your chunks.

I think getting further away from the ball will help. A lot of times thins are a result of not wanting to chunk the ball. So, flattening out the swing with proper setup could get rid of all that problems. Because your head doesn't look like it drops down, so i don't see were the chunk shots come from, except if your flipping at the ball, or your to close.

Another thing you could work on, is getting your weight forward more at impact. This can cause a lot of fat shots. I see your back foot is turning out, instead of banking towards the target. To me, that is a sign of your weight back, because its easier to support the weight falling away from the target on your toes of your back foot, if not you might actually fall backwards (i've done this in the past). Take a look at the 5 keys video thread in the  "Swing Thoughts" section on the forum. A lot of good stuff there. I think you would benefit from the following tips.
