Last Saturday I was playing at a long municipal course and i slightly pulled a tee shot on a long par4 and it landed between the trees that separated the hole from the one next to it... There's a group by the spot where my ball landed and my ball is nowhere to be found when I approach and they leave to their balls up ahead.

Lame. I hope somebody forgets to yell "Fore!" at you.

I had the exact same thing happen on sunday. I was driving alot further than i usually do, and i landed into trees that seperated two holes, the people infront took my ball on that hole, and then the next. both of them were very far drives. The worse were they were both titleist pro v1's

Did you say something like "hey guys, did you happen to see a ball land around here?". Sometimes that will get them to say "oh yeah, sorry, I picked it up by accident, I found it over here". Or, if they're dishonest, they'll just say they didn't see anything. If that's the case, hopefully the Golf Gods will punish them for you :)

I happened to run into some very honest people yesterday afternoon before work. Shanked my tee shot into some trees that border the next hole over. Guys ahead of us were looking in the same trees and there were 3 balls on the ground and none of them belonged to any of us! Since there was no chance it was from players on a different hole, we just split them up and now I've got myself a Titleist So-Lo Chicago White Sox logo ball.

Would prefer to have found my D2 and not taken a penalty stroke, though.

the thing that pisses you off the most is if it's not your's simply leave it there, (I mean if your playing mid-day, you know there are alot of other people playing and possibility coming up the next fairway)....now if your out there just before dark, fine the chances of it being someone behind you or in front of you are less greater.

I had the same thing hapen last month, only it was in a tournament!!! I was ready to head back to the tee but one of the guys in my group approached the group heading the other way and gave me my ball back!!! We called the club house for a ruling and I was told to have the guy show me approximately where he picked it up and I was to drop with no penalty.

I think the same thing happened to me this Sunday. 160 yard par 3, green behind some trees, over a small little creek. I hooked it over the trees, but saw it land between the bunkers off the green, which are about 15-20 feet from the creek. The people in front were still waiting for the next tee. I go to grab my bag and turn to see someone walking away from the spot of my ball.

When I get down there I can't see my ball. I know it didn't land in the water, I've lost balls in the water there before, I know what it would look like. So I ask them if they saw a ball land around here and the couple with their teenage son just shook their heads no. I asked if they were sure and the lady gave an annoyed 'No'.

Luckily I found a ball sitting on the rocks in the creek, a marked Titleist SoLo (same as my ball, just marked with a logo and sharpie dot), still irked me though.

    • So no joke, last evening post work nine must have been the craziest side I've ever played: Bogey, double, double, par, birdie, birdie, birdie, double, birdie. Two gimme birdies, one 15 footer and one bonus bomb from prolly 35 feet on no. 9. Full disclosure, it's a super easy course when greens are running at an 8 with easy welcoming pins. Still, a couple of firsts there. Driver freed me up starting the fourth hole. Anyway, driver notes: 1) anti left left hand grip. 2) no structural bind on hands/grip. 3) left shoulder HAS to get up to chin with humerus completely detached from chest and shoulder socket (feel) Big game tomorrow, aiming to break 80.
