No more swinging blindly away into a net. Now I have something to aim for.... a bonus is that should I miss the target, the impact sound is much different. (the worse being no sound at all )

coincidence or not?  since putting up that target, I've been hitting the darn thing dead center with full force driver!  Several times in a row. Maybe something to do with focus, I really do not know. All I see is the impact mark in the bulls eye that will disappear after a few moments.

Now if it happens again tomorrow..........well, hopefully not just a fluke or a "good day".

That is another subject for debate. Form vs function as it were.  Some say, net practice helps you focus on mechanics and work on specific swing flaws. Others maintain that you need to see actual ball flight. The set up I have now, allows me to do a little of both in that I can still work on fades and draws (in miniature) by pitching from 45 feet away.  I do not use driving ranges much at all. Too much tendency for mindless swinging away.  At least I can see what effect face angle has and what direction the ball is starting out at.

I was guilty of the 'seven iron only' on the driving range. Now I practice as I would play a bogey par 5 starting with driver then 3 wood, 6 iron, 52 or 56 wedge then finish with a chip, pitch or lob shot at 10-15 yards or so.

How far away from the target when using your driver?

It varies, usually about 12 to 15 feet. Any further I might risk shooting over the top especially if I were using the foam practice balls, but lately have been using real shag balls.

er..make that 18 feet. (just measured it)

Well......although I really like my set up, the target is getting long tears. I am not sure why, it is not tight, suspended with bungies and paracord, but for some reason or another, the long horizontal tears are appearing. It did not occur in the hitting cage secured in the same manner, unless it was because it was nearly up against the back wall of the net before. I may have to simply glue it to the back drop with some spray adhesive before it gets to the point of diminishing return.

They don't last that long when hitting into them with a driver.  It would have to be Kevlar.  Net practice is a great way to work on your form.  Are you filming your swing?

Yes, I have posted three or four in member swings.

You may be right about the Kevlar though. Although I tried to mend the tears with duct tape, it was not long before even the duct tape tore. I am thinking what is happening is that with the new backdrop material being a little stiffer and more like canvas (it is a sun shade cloth), that it does not give as much as the cage net was when the polyvinyl target pressed up against the netting and the whole cage would move back. I may replace the shade cloth with real impact netting provided the target isn't torn to shreds in the meantime. I am now trying clear packing tape and so far it has not torn.  At least, I know my drives are solid ;)
