I need strong reviews of these clubs. Thinking of making the switch out of the 905R.

how do people feel about the stock TP shaft, the heaver version on the burner - I can't deal with a 50 gram shaft.

is the superquad worth the extra 200 over the Burner?

They're very different drivers. I hated the Burner TP. I really, really liked the r7 425 TP.

No TM reviews here. I posted a very quick review of the Burner here. It's too light, too long, and not incredibly pleasing to look at. Things went right because the shaft was a poor fit for me, and I couldn't stand the feel.

You need to find a place that you can demo these clubs. Reviews are fun to read, but in the end tell you nothing about a product. You need to swing it for yourself to see if it is a fit for you and your game. Both drivers have their "target audience", but if you dont like a light shaft then I can tell you that the Burner TP is not a club for you, at least not with the factory shaft. Personally, I think anything over 45" belongs in long drive contests only. The extra 5 yards isnt worth the directional sacrifice IMO. The Superquad is going to give you more versatility off the tee, but again you have to hit these yourself to see how they feel and react in your hands. As I have said in about 90% of my other posts, LAUNCH MONITOR!!!!! Especially if you plan on spending that kind of money on a driver. You might find out that neither gives you the numbers you are looking for off the tee.

Definitely try to hit them first. I wanted to buy the burner, but when i hit it on the launch monitor, i was awful. Tried the superquad and loved it.

Driver: Superquad 9.5° - XS
3 Wood: Big Bertha II 15° - S
Irons: Mizuno MX-20
Wedges: Mizuno 50-06, 56-11, 60-05

I tried both and the Burner TP was 10 times better feeling and it performed better. Now I tried it with a UST Proforce V2 shaft, but that's because I had that shaft in my last driver and knew I wanted something heavier and more stable. The golf shop I went to had the Taylor Made fitting system where they can match the Burner or SuperQuad TP heads with about 15 different shafts. Hit them both and find out for yourself which one fits your game.

I haven't tried either TP, so I don't know if this will help you.

But I did demo both the Superquad and the Burner at my range, and while both were good, I liked the Burner better.

Love my Burner TP!

I've got the Graphite Design 65g stock TP shaft in stiff, the ball flight is flatter; guessing thats attributed to less spin for me. My HiBore would balloon fairly frequently, and it had a bit of a hook face; the Burner TP seems to be perfectly square. My miss is a hook, so it's nice to see that turn over less.

As for looks, well, it aint the promqueen at address. But then again, if it costs 600.00 to take the promqueen out and play, I'm not interested. And if ugly is long and straight, I'm all about ugly. Besides, the crown graphics grow on you after a while and so far, I'm the only one that I've met in person that thinks it's ugly.

But hey, that's why there are so many drivers on the market, different strokes for different folks.

I actually went in to my local golf store and checked out both drivers on a launch monitor... well, its a number of issues I'm having. I have a tendency to hit a low cut... not my ideal shot shape but its been something I have been able to control.

I hit the Superquad TP and the Burner TP, each with their stock shafts and with the V2 and the Proto VS. I guess I am just struggling with my confidence with the long stick, it was my definate go to club for a long time but as of recently I haven't been able to control the club and my trajectory.

Here are some numbers:
SuperQuad TP UST V2 S 67 gram - (average) 142.5 Ball speed, 9.8 launch, 94.6 clubhead speed
SuperQuad TP Stock Shaft - 145.3 ball speed, 11.0 launch, 97.9 clubhead speed

I have zero confidence right now in my driver... I may just have to put the money away and just stick with what I have.

I am going to look into the r7 460 TP, its going for a pretty cheap price on ebay these days... I can drop a couple houndred and take the risk but 600 is a little steep

This is such a tough question to ask. I think about the Burner as a perfect driver for the above the top (50+ when it comes to years) driver.
I recommended it to my dad, after he bought himself a Cobra driver two years ago. All he did with the Cobra was slicing and mishitting. After he got the Burner, he plays of the tee like a god. Ok, to be honest, his swing is quite terrible. His backswing is way too fast, his body is going out of position, and during his follow through, he is unbalanced.
But he drives it 250mts+ plus every single time, and it is dead straight.

When it comes to the Superquad TP, I tested it outside Marbella, Spain this summer. Odd enough, someone had left his/her driver at the yellow tee at a long par 4. Quite weird, huh?
I found it, and my oh my, I was pretty shocked while standing at a par 4 tee with a slightly used Superquad in my hands. My oh my, it was heavy. It was almost like holding one of those old and antique fry pans.

I had to test it, and what a cool feel, I really enjoyed the impact, it was almost like if the ball had a slight plastic feel. And believe me, the ball did travel a long way. With that said, I did not have the control that I have with my squared Sumo driver that I use nowadays, but if I`d give it a couple of buckets at the range, I`d gladly swap it for my squared driver.

After testing it, I reported the club as a lost one to the marshal, and he apparently found the owner a couple of holes in front of me. I`m really hoping that karma is excisting, if you catch my drift.

I have made one hole in one this far. While you are reading this, I am most likely out on the tee trying to sink another one

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.   
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls. 
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.  
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
