I'm a hack golfer but I like to keep up with my score during the round. If I'm playing alone I keep up with it after every hole. If playing with others I usually just check after 9.

concentrate on your breathing and itll help you get comfortable in a good rhythm when you are going low.

I broke 70 for the first time a few weeks ago doing that, shot -5 on the back 9 and was completely comfortable the entire time (I had done it once before too though, although it was only 9 holes).

Also you need to tell yourself to not be a coward, its helped if you have been in the situation before a bunch of times you should learn from them. This is why I think Tiger has a big edge mentally on a lot of the guys on tour, he went through all his mental training at a very young age and dealt with the sometimes uncomfortable aspect of leading and winning. Hes won so much that he can draw on past experiences and hes known hes done it before so he can do it time and time again. I believe its the same reason you see guys who are reaching milestones in their career continue to press on and do them. Like glavine winning 300 games or bonds hitting 755 ive wondered if they ever think about not hitting another homerun again or maybe pitching like crap and not winning another game (since they are both older guys) But its been such habbit for them and they have confidence that they do it. Been there done that.
