Mine is very effective for me, and takes 13 seconds from the moment I take the cub from the bag.

On the tee if I am waiting I will usually just make some mini half practice swings, just trying to relax a bit.

If I am all clear out in front then I will take a practice swing, or 2 if the first one doesn't feel right, then line up, and hit the ball.

Occasionally I will then start yelling wildly at the ball.

I know how to make a proper swing, what I don't need to do is cloud my feeble brain with practice swings that I will then evaluate and "fix". What I need to do is let my swing react to the target.

Gotcha - and a good point.

When I get my club out I'll be standing behind the ball picking out a target line a coupla feet in front of my ball (just softly swinging that particular club once or twice, not full concentrated swings), and making my "plan" (high shot, low shot, draw, fade, etc), then clear the head as I step to the ball, line up the club and swing. No more "thinking" once I step to the ball, just execute the shot I decided to do. When I was a teen I did the ol' takin' a bucketload of full-on, full-strength, practice swings and all it did was tire me out by hole 14... :)
