I've been Playing Golf for: 3-4 months

My current handicap index or average score is: ? My 3-4 months of playing has been solely range time and Par 3 courses.

My typical ball flight is: Draw

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Push. Not a slice, but a straight push with little power.

Just signed up for and submitted the same below videos on Evolvr.

I just started working on the 5 keys, focusing right now on a steady head. Other things I am aware of in my swing and that are on my list (I guess now they are on the list when Evovlr says to work on them):

- Steeper back swing/less early rotation of forearms

- Right leg tends to come up early, often rotated to a "finish" position at impact

- OTT at times (more so starts OTT and then falls underneath the line)

- Follow through - my left arm folds shortly after impact

There are many others, haha, but these are the main ones.

10.31 - No feed back from Evolvr yet, so I continued to work on a steady head and weight forward. I also focused on a steeper shoulder rotation. Hit the ball the best yet - very high trajectory and a slight draw. Miss was still a push right.

11.1 - Heard back from Evolvr. James has me working on a few things:

- Set-Up: - Widen stance, flair out feet more. Slightly more knee bend. Forward shaft lean/hands forward. Bring up my right hand tighter with my left in the grip.

- Backswing:

- Restrict hip and shoulder rotation/watch over-rotation.

- Steeper shoulder turn.

- Too much/too soft lower body in backswing.

- Upper arm pressure points.

- Drill: Short punch shots with above in mind; towel/tee under arms.

11.2  - Implementing some of James' analyses.

End of a long range session and some of the components I was working on are breaking down with fatigue, but still decent striking. Good trajectory, good flight, good distance.

Primary focus: Set-up, steeper shoulder turn, pressure points in upper arms. Still overrated at times.

Not a focus today, but the head is moving a lot - up on backswing, and down/forward on downswing.

PW - 135-140

8i - 150-ish

3H - 180-190 - strong draws (elevated landing spot)

driver - Pushed a lot today. Played with ball placement and struggled with hitting under the ball and popping it up.

11.8 Range session:

Overall good session. Took awhile to warm up, but hit decently. Focused on set-up, steeper turn, restricting hips and shoulders and keeping PPs in upper arms.

Restricting the hips was easy, but even though I felt that I was restricting the shoulders they still turn quite a bit in these vids and subsequently flatten out my shoulder turn. I do not think that was the case all day - I was probably just focusing on a different feel in these specific videos. Pressure points also broke down when I did not consciously think about them. My misses were pushes right and weak, and in looking at the video it seems that I consistently hit all of my pushes off the toe.

Set-up: The additional knee bend James suggested resulted in S-curve in my back. Need to work on this.

I am questioning my irons. Even though I was fitted for them it was before I really started practicing and I could not swing at all. When I set-up with the leading edge flat it results in a very upright stance.

Submitted these vids to Evolvr (even though I still need to work on the previously suggestions) to check out set-up.

7i - straight draw , high trajectory.

7i - push, strong draw left of target

Pacific Grove links. It's my go to one on the peninsula but will rotate between it and Laguna Seca when we get too much fog here - which is often!

Both of these are from back in November. An injury put me out from November until this week, and in that I worked on a few things in slo motion. My primary focus here was the right elbow at the top of the backswing - keeping it lower than lead arm. Definitely overswing and early extend among other things.

After 4+ months out with a rib injury, this was tough. In my time off I worked on some slo motion drills focusing on inclination and early extension. I still need to work on those as they breakdown in full speed/full swings. Fell into some of my old habits of too much shoulder/hip rotation, over-swinging past parallel, and too much leg movement.

Miss hits were weak pushes right, and hitting behind the ball.

These videos are the epitome of feel is not real, as after looking at them they look nothing like the feels I thought I had.

Stop your backswing in the position shown in the bottom image, and the top image will look a lot better:

Also, WOW:

Yeah, that was one of the first things James mentioned, and one that I had gotten better at, but fell right back into. And on the guy behind - so did not notice that. He seemed to be hitting the ball decently on the few swings that I saw, but yeah, wow.

Working on address - one of the items Stephen mentioned in my last Evolvr video. His main comment was to be more upright (from my last video posted). Thoughts on this?

The first and third pictures are the same setup. The middle one - which I did not take a FO of, is a question I have. How I am setup in the first picture (and my old setup), I feel like the shaft is too  upright. Looking at vids and pics of others, the shaft, if extended, runs into their zipper. My runs into my upper abdomen. The middle picture is an attempt to lower the shaft plane, but the result is the toe is lifted at address. Thoughts here?

I have wondered a lot if my clubs were mis-fitted. I was fitted for them last year, and basically could not swing a club at the time. I had intended on waiting to have a semi-repeatable swing before purchasing them, but there was a deal I could not pass up. The fitters also seemed more interested in hitting at the range, and "fit" me in all of 15 minutes.

Any help with set-up would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah agree with @sk golf on that. Butt was sticking out and the torso was too bent over. These look better. Arms are at a much better angle. Not sure what your priority piece is so I won't step on any toes but there will eventually be a couple more things to do at address.

Appreciate it Mike. My other priority piece, other than address, is my swing length, but my one day at the range for the above videos aggravated my rib injury again so it will be a few more weeks before I can swing again. That said, I would appreciate your other thoughts on address as that is all I can do right now .

Side note - my chin/eyes are not where they would be as the camera was on a timer and I was not sure when it would go off.

@mvmac not stepping on any toes :)

@JKolya Torso looks better (more upright) but you still need less anterior pelvic tilt (I also call this Donald Duck butt).  :)

Yep same thing I was seeing, head is also too far back. I like that, "Donald Duck", might have to steal that LOL

I noticed that too, and have a question on it - Stephan mentioned in my Evolvr lesson was that the line from butt down to my heels - it was too close and I needed more space. I had a little of the donald duck butt before, but trying to fix the other made it worse. Said another way, trying to have less anterior pelvic titl resulted in  the line from the pelvis to my heels being closer to the heels. Will work on it.

    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
