I'm thinking of organizing a trip with some of my old high school buddies next spring. Most of us live on the east coast but many of us haven't seen each other in 20+ years so I figured what better place for a boys get together weekend than Myrtle Beach (and yes, I'm trying to back into a golf weekend for myself...haha). A number of the guys don't golf but still want to come so my question to those who have been down there is there enough to do their for non-golfers to make it worthwhile (alot of them are BIG into fishing). Also, I've just started looking into golf packages (really want to play Caledonia based on what I've read on this forum) and assuming there are hotels that accomodate both golf packages in addition to non-golfers. I'd rather not have us stay in 2 different hotels but also want to take advantage of some of the packages that are available on the golf-side. Suggestions/feedback welcomed.

Fishing and golf are perfect for a Myrtle Beach trip. If you stay closer to the southern end, Murrels Inlet is right there with boats available, and a few good courses nearby. And it isn't like the old days- when it was a drive to get to anything from there- Everything came to there. Oh, as for packages- for non- golfers and golfers to get the best deals, book everyone as if on a golf package. Those that don't golf still get the breakfasts or whatever. It will many times cost MORE to book non-golfers with golfers at the same place. Before you get to the course you call and let them know there will be less than expected. They will fill in the spaces with others. The non-golfers go out and fish. It always is an issue when I travel with my Wife when they put on these cheap specials in late fall/early Spring. She doesn't golf, but it's cheaper to book in as a 2 person package than break it to 1 and 1. She gets the free breakfasts and drink specials, and gets to sleep in when I go off to play. When I get there or before I leave, I call the course and tell them there will be only one. No problems, they fill in with a single or whatever.

We'll do!!! Now that fishing is on the agenda, I may need to ask the Mrs. to give me a few extra days down there.

myrtle beach is a great place to go to for golf and fishing. plenty to do for non golfers and awesome array of course to play. i have been a group leader for an annual trip there for the last 15 or so years. my groups started aut as a 4some and has been as large as 20. if you have a large group check out www.golfzoo.com they can hook you up. there is also www.mytlebeachgolfmasters.com or www.mbn.com just do a search for myrtle beach golf packages and any number of wesites will come up. our last trip ran right at 600 dollars for 7 nights and 6 days. golf and condo included in that price.one of my favorite courses there is The International World Tour golf Club, 17 holes designed after the 27 most famous holes around the world. If you play there you gotta do all 27.....well worth it. Good luck with your search and you won't regret it :-)

You must not have played there in a while. They've closed 9 holes at World Tour. There are now only 18.

    • 70 today. The number looks good but, the course is a par 67 (5,110 yards, 64.3/115.). While the 70 took quite a few good shots to achieve, I am not counting that as shooting my age.
    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲

    • Why wouldn't it have? It's not like you were playing it as a 145yd par 5 and made a 2 or something.  Or not like it was playing 50yds to a temporary green or something either.
