HotStix franchise???? Never heard of it. Maybe we are talking about 2 different companies with similar names. Here is the site to what I am talking about.....

http://www.hotstixgolf.com/

Here are their locations.....

http://www.hotstixgolf.com/index.php?action=locations

They have 4.

Dont know about this franchise thing, but it sounds like it would be a chop shop. Not sure how many of these "franchised" locations they may or may not have, but I have never been to one of those. The work and fitting I have had done in both AZ and CO was far superior to any fitting and clubmaking that I have ever experienced, and I've been many places. Go to one of their main locations, not a franchise, and let me know what you think.

Reading the rest of your post.... I see that you have been to what I consider a "real" HotStix. Guess you already know what I previously stated was correct then. They employ only the best golf professionals. That said, sad to hear that they are employing kids that know nothing at these franchises.

As far as looking like an ass..... I would have to say that when your company services countless tour professionals, you are most likely the best at what you do..... which HotStix is..... aside from these franchises you are talking about.

No, you obviously have no clue as to their marketing program that's been going on for two years now....there's many licensed Hot Stix facilities now...would you like me to take a picture of the one in Cedar Rapids with the same Hot Stix Logo to prove it to you and the other members? Or is the phone number I provided sufficient?

Dont know about this franchise thing, but it sounds like it would be a chop shop.

Isn't that what I said before you insulted me?

Not sure how many of these "franchised" locations they may or may not have, but I have never been to one of those. That is exactly what I said...the AZ location is great...they knew their stuff ...but the other facilities I visited were an embarrassment and there was no way I was going to add our name to that chain.

As far as looking like an ass..... I would have to say that when your company services countless tour professionals, you are most likely the best at what you do..... which HotStix is..... aside from these franchises you are talking about.

So now you're ADMITTING that there other Hot Stix facilities??? Where's the apology for calling me out?

As far as your statement: " ..when your company services countless tour professionals, you are most likely the best at what you do...." Okay.... We've worked with Zach Johnson and his dad....we work extensively with our guys on the Long Drive Association and fitted many winners and currently working with a PGA pro whos won 6 PGA tournaments and looking for more distance....of which we've given 15 (carry). He will be carrying our logo in about a month. So what have YOU done??????

Did I ever say a bad word about whatever company it is that you work for??? NO!!!! I could care less what you do or if you worked on Zack Johnsons clubs. I dont build clubs, I play them, so get over yourself.

Sorry that I have never been to one of the fabulous McDonalds Hotstix. Sounds like someone paid 26k for a name and so their son could have a job fitting people. There is no substitute for quality people, regardless of what your business name is, and in time it will come back to bite them in the ass.

My experiences are based on countless visits to "actual" Hotstix facilities. Before this thread, I didnt even know Hotstix was taking the Mc route. As long as their AZ and CO facilities dont suffer from this franchising, I could really care less what they do.

So back to my original point...... there is no place in the world to get better fit than at HotStix Golf, as long as it is one of the 4 locations they have listed on their site.

.......I know I need a stiff, but what shaft do you recommend as being a quality shaft I should look into?

Ryan, As others have mentioned it's hard to fit a person over the web, so it's best to get fit in person. The shaft you mentioned are all good quality but it's all about getting the right fit. bwinger and indacup, Hey guys, lets keep this on track here. Ryan had a question about which shaft to choose. You two are actually both right/wrong. Hot Stix Golf has 4 corporate locations and yes there are several other shops which purchased the right to use the Hot Stix software but that is about the only thing these shops share. I know I've thrown myself in the middle here and I'm not choosing sides but a whole other thread (which should have been done when you two started to pick at each other) about Mark Timms, Hot Stix Golf and Cool Clubs could have been started.

Thanks for trying to keep the peace Everardo...and for your input!

The reason for my post was just to get suggestions on either what to try or what has worked well for other people. I know I should get fitted, but there isn't anywhere close to me to do it. Next time I get a new set of clubs, I'll go to Golfsmith up in Chicago or something to get fitted.

Thanks to everyone for your responses.

Anytime I can help, I'm happy to try.

Well from my own experience I've tried many and you can see below what I've choosen for my gamers. I have more clubs that I use depending on the course etc but again it's all about the fit. The great thing is that there is more than one shaft that can fit a person. Well it's great for a clubfitter but makes many choices for the consumer.

I know I should get fitted, but there isn't anywhere close to me to do it. Next time I get a new set of clubs, I'll go to Golfsmith up in Chicago or something to get fitted.

I don't know where you live but other than Edwin Watts, Golf Galaxy and others you could try searching for a

Thanks for steering the cart back on course...I apologize for my reaction...but as an OWNER of a golf business for over 11 years, I took offense to some guy calling me out and telling me I don't know the industry.

So, back to Ryan's dilemma...

As I stated earlier, there is no industry standard for flex, kickpoint, torque etc....what may look good on paper may not work well on the course.

The best thing to do is look up a local PCS pro in your area...not a Dicks, not a Hot Stix, not a Golf Smith, not a Golf Galaxy....etc.

These are all companies that are limited to their inventory "on hand" as to what they will recommend.

So you will not get a recommendation what is the BEST for you, but get a recommendation what's best for you within their current supply.

A good fitter will be able to fit you with the combination they recommend and let you try it on the launch monitor to compare against the others.

Good luck!

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
