  1. 1. would you rather

GIR. You could one putt for a 10 on every hole but GIR gives you a shot at a birdie and relatively easy chance for par.

How many times does it take you 10 to get onto the green? You may as well say you could hit the GIR and then eight-putt. It's as likely as you taking 10 to get onto the green.

Statistically, for most people (from about a 15 handicap on down), one-putting remains the clear better choice. The math is simple. One putting = 18 (or less) putts per round. If you currently average 32 putts, that's a savings of 14. If you hit only 4 GIR, it might be a wash (your birdies would even out your three-putts), but most golfers hit more than 4 GIR, making the one putting the logical choice for most folks. Plus, imagine how frustrating it would be to hit 18 GIR only to shoot 75.

Hit every green. What would be the point in putting if you knew you were going to make it every time? Putting is one of the best parts of the game.. no point in wrecking that by taking out the guess work..

Since I have a real shitty GIR I prefer chipping/putting. I have an average of like 6/7 GIR's per round, which isn't good at all. Despite that I manage to walk around par for the most of the times. Not to brag to much, but I am quite a good player around the green.

It really depends on the player. For me, definitely putting. Even though I only hit about a third of the greens in a round, I am usually close to the green. Since I two putt a lot, draining every putt would lower my score more than hitting more GIRs.

I voted putt but on second thought if you're talking about 18/18 GIR, that might feel real good, hmmmm.

You're a 10 handicap, and you hit enough greens in regulation to be ranked inside the top 10 on the PGA Tour???

Call me skeptical... you'd be right.

I'd rather make every GIR. Putting is putting I could putt great when I was 8 years old. If I could hit every GIR I could probably sink at least 4 birdie putts... with another four 3 putts and the rest 2 putts thats an even round. Not bad at all. What good is sinking a putt that is for bogey or double.

Every green in regulation would be huge! Not making every putt doesn't mean that you won't be making some putts.....
Even if you didn't make any first putts, you're still looking at an even par round. (Every GIR leaves you with two putts for par)
I'll take that!

Wow....this is probably going to induce some dreams of 18/18 GIR! lol

    • Because of the 68.4-72 part. If he shoots 10 over par (his course handicap), he will have shot his index. You don't factor par in when you calculate the differential, but you do when you calculate the course handicap. That's where the difference comes in. It works symmetrically: guy shoots 82 and gets a 12.4. Guy plays off a 12.4 and… has to shoot 82.

    • I'm the commissioner of a golf league and am often asked about why someone's handicap is this or that or why it's going down or why it's not going up. Those kinds of questions can easily explain but this one has me struggling to come up with a logical answer. I understand the formulas to calculate the course differential for individual rounds, the handicap index that results after averaging the best 8 differentials of the most recent 20 rounds and finding the course handicap for an individual round. What I don’t understand is the logic. Here’s an example: Suppose a golfer plays the same course all the time. Let’s say it’s a Par-4, the Course Index is 68.4 and the Slope is 124. If someone shoots an 82, assuming no adjustment, the differential for that round would be (82-68.4) X (113/124) =12.4. Let’s further assume the average differential of his best 8 rounds is also 12.4. Now, if he goes back to that same golf course, his Course Handicap will be 12.4 X (124/113)+(68.4-72) = 10. I understand the math...that's pretty simple. I don’t understand the logic. Why aren’t they the same?
    • Day 5 - Old Macdonald Of all the courses, this one to me, played the most like a link course should play. Huge greens, plenty of room to play the ball down. This one was super fun to play.  Hole 3 is super cool, you tee off up and over this big dune, and at the top you get view of the nearly the entire course. It's like, here you go, enjoy.  I would rate this one 8.5/10 I think every one should play Pacific Dunes, but if I had to say which ones I think people would enjoy the most.  1. Bandon Dunes 2. Bandon Trail 3. Old MacDonald 4. Pacific Dunes.  Pacific Dunes is so demanding. For me, I enjoyed Old MacDonald and Bandon Dunes the most, but I think Pacific Dunes is the best course out there.  Some photos...
