I know there are some scratch golfers around here and I'm curious to hear from anyone who has participated in an Open. How did you do? Did you enjoy it? I would love to hear general thoughts and stories. If anyone is close to being eligible for the Open and considering joining I would love to hear from you as well.

Im assuming youre talking about the US Open, and im gonna take a guess and say nobody here has played in one. You gotta do better then scratch to qualify into that monster.

Well from what I read you qualify for the Open and U.S. Open as long as you are a scratch golfer. And I meant either one.

I think you need a 2 handicap or better. If I get close enough to scratch I might give it a shot, but that's not for at least another few years. Assuming I keep improving...

Well you qualify to try to qualify.Im sure theres a thousand golfers that can get that far. If youve ever seen the winning scores of the qualifying tourneys for the US Open and Open though then you know youll never see a scratch or two handicap competing in the actual opens.

3 or 4, i dont like to brag though.

You were born in 1984, live in Canada, and your handicap here is listed as 7. So what's up?

Might I be joking?

OK. I thought you might be doing that, but why? It's not very funny.

You know, if GitrDone's going to be scratch in one year, doesn't that mean I won the Grand Slam three years in a row?

    • Day 563, May 18, 2024 Was going to play today, but we waited on the first tee for 15 minutes, watched three of the four players lose their golf balls, and went to the range (with @DrizZzY). I was hitting some hybrids 250 on the range, comfortably, repeatably.
    • Give it time. if Hatton misses another shot he might launch his club & hit someone .
    • That’s a pre Sunday leaderboard I can like.
    • The best was Tommy Gainey in the prostitution sting a few years ago. Now that was funny.
    • Played Musgrove Mill GC today. 72.3/155. First round in 4 weeks and shot 44-39. 2 triple bogies on the front and horseshoed 4 putts today. Overall, 10 fairways, 8 GIR and 31 putts.  Set a goal today to par the 3 toughest holes (4, 18 and 9) and birdie 10 or 12 (which I have never birdied). Parred 4, 9 and birdied 10. Crushed my drive on 18 and had 139 left, but in casual water. Dropped back a little ways and took an extra club. Hit my 8-iron well but it came up short. Bunker shot from wet sand left me an 18’ for my goal. Read the break well but perhaps an inch too much break, and a touch heavy on the speed. Ball circled the hole 270* and tapped in for a bogey. Handicap dropped 0.1.
