Speedbladz, RocketBladz etc. Can they be flattened?

Yesterday night, I went in to test out the TM product line in hopes of getting the substantial discount at Golfsmith. I looked at the SpeedBladz and the RocketBladz and tested out both clubs, and was getting pretty decent compression, and the clubs were light and easy to swing. Although the shots were 1/4" towards the toe the strikes felt really good, and I said all I need to do was flatten them because of scuff marks near the heel. They said the limit at the TM factory was only 1.5 degrees or so. My Mizunos are all flat 3 degrees, and that appears to be where I like them. I'm not short, 5'10.5", but for some reason my arms dangle low to the ground because of my longer wingspan. Needlessly said, that was disappointing. This is the main reason I don't use my Burners. Has anyone tried to flatten them? If so, was 1.5 degrees enough?

Just a reminder that you need to look at actual lie angles of different sets and not just go by relative terms.  Just because you flatten Mizunos by 3* doesn't necessarily mean TM's will require the same adjustment to get to whatever lie angle you like.  (You probably already knew that though)

Also, I always find it interesting that everybody gets their clubs adjusted uniformly, because for whatever reason, the guy that fit me didn't do that.  For example:

My 4 iron is 1 1/4" longer than and 3* upright from a standard (black dot) 4 iron, my 8 iron is also 1 1/4" longer but only 2* upright, and my gap wedge is only 1" longer and 2* upright.  LW is only 1 inch longer and 1.5* up.

Here in the uk, they said flattening them 2* was no problem, (that was the rocketbladez non tour version if that helps) Also, the notches in the hosels we're put there by design to make adjusting them easier! So I have to agree! 1.5 max sounds a bit strange to me? I'd get a second opinion!

Lihu I know I was playing my Pings at 1.5* upright but went in and ordered a set of X2Hot that are standard. I would go back and find a different person and don't just go by what you have been playing. Like you my swing has changed over the past two years.

So you're saying that eventually I'll need to use a 10 degree flatter club with short graphite shafts???

The longer the club the more flattening needed, I got my rocketblades shortened instead if flattening! There really are some terrible golf salesmen/fitters around! It's a good job a forum like this exists! I've learnt so much about golf & equipment on here I feel I know more than most of them! (I bet they play better than me though)

Yes, but only the latest ones. They have separate castings for every degree +/-3 and standard. TM makes it and molds it custom for the full price of the clubs. No sale prices apply for this.

WOW that was the first I heard of that was this only at GS have you tried RD?

I have not tried RD, but they also do not have the correct equipment to bend the cast steel clubs.

Call the one in Santa Ana they have the equipment, I have seen them bend cast clubs there.

I would also ask them about ordering from TM, I have never heard that you could not get a sale price on a special order before.

I never shop at GS unless it is for balls, gloves or small stuff they are not very helpful.

I just called them. Bending forged clubs is not an issue, and most stores have the same equipment they do.

The issue is that the SpeedBlade bend limit is 2 degrees. This is the threshold where they would need to custom order one from TM as well for 2-3 degrees.

Again no sale price, like the other stores.

I'm seriously thinking that I should just learn to swing more effectively with my MP-52 rather than get an SGI club.

I ask because when I got a fitted for my X2Hot last week they showed I was standard now, big difference from 1.5 up?

I am still a bit concerned that is not correct and will have them check it again when they come in, had an added wrap on the grips. But you do get a 90 return or adjustment from RD.

Not a big fan or working myself into a club golf is to darn hard as it is but JMHO of course. The good thing is you can change clubs now days with all the deals and coupons for very little in an up charge.

I have a set of Burners, and feel that the setup is awkward. While I can use them, it feels strange at setup.

I guess for me I play GI/SGI irons with offset so looking down at them and set up is much more easy and they swing close to the same.

One day I would like to be able to swing an I25 or Apex style iron but it is not today, I need all the help I can get!
