How do I prevent an occasional thin scull with 8-PW?

Sounds good- getting the weight forward soon enough makes it much more possible to swing without flipping IMO.

wow, you have all given me a lot to think about!

As for distance, it was remarked upon the distance for a 9 iron at 115 sounded geriatric. But as I said earlier, when I hit the ball on a solid pick, I get ALOT of height- much more than my playing partners, so as a result the ball usually ends up very close to the divot (within 3 feet most times) So as some have pointed out, I am unintentionally lofting the club, but strangely it backfires a few times a round and turns into a line drive bullet.

I think I'll see my teaching Pro and have him tell me what he thinks it is.

I'm having a bit of a problem also with thoser short irons I think. I suppose it could be bad setup and ball position.

My clubhead speed is about 105-110 mph with driver.

I hit solid 7-irons at 164 yards, which is ok for the speed.

But P wedge and those short irons don't go so as they should be going... You should be getting more accurate and less dispersion in shots as you go up in the loft of the clubs LOL!!!

sorry for the long delay in the followup....

so I went to our PGA pro and he was able to diagnose the problem immediately. It had nothing to do with flipping or weight transfer (which I thought) but had everything to do with the path I took the club back and the path I took the club down. Apparently it was quite shallow. If I were to drop the club at the top of my backswing, it would have almost missed hitting my back.

I now stand a bit closer to the ball and "try" because old habits are hard to break, to take the club back more upright.

The thin shots are nearly non existent (less than a 2-3 per round) and my ball striking more consistent. The only problem I encounter is a little loss or disconnect in swing tempo, which I'm working through,

Thanks for all the replies.

    • Day 4 (24 Jun 26) - Played the mid-week shootout - iffy day on putts as I had 35 and of late been in the upper 20's.   Greens recently verti-cut and they are a bit bump and long haired - no excuses as I need to learn to trust making the proper adjustments.   Overall a decent day with some solid long game shots.

    • Thank you.  I'll cross it off the list since it isn't going to achieve what I want.
    • While it does turn out that both Tiger and Phil are less squeaky clean than I previously believed, I don't think golf quite has the worst in professional sports.  Or maybe they're better at image management.   Obviously I'm not fond of Phil's issue we're discussing in this thread (or his involvement with LIV) or Tiger's choices of how to drive.  I used to really like Dustin Johnson and, even before the LIV situation, we started to hear rumors that he bought more snow than Seward, although I don't think those stories were ever substantiated.  Meanwhile, I did think of Anthony Kim as the "good, bad boy" of the tour for a while fifteen years ago because of his party persona -- and if it turns out the worst he did was show up hung over to play (barring what one thinks of LIV), that's pretty good.  And I'm still happy he found a way to get his life clean. If we contrast that with some other sports I enjoy, I'm sure we could find a nice long list of NFL players that, at one point in my life, I was quite fond of, we get far worse disappointments (to put it mildly).
    • Answering that properly would land me in hot water, so I'm not going to. I don't think that many people would do that. I think that in certain circumstances many people would be willing to overlook someone doing that. But I was really referring to what I assumed was Tiger's transgressions (cheating on his wife) not Phil's.
