I can't give any advice because I also hit the ball pretty low. Just wanted to make some observations. My brother is my usual playing partner and he hits pretty much everything super high while I hit low line drives for the most part.

If there is a crosswind, then our distances are pretty much the same, give or take about 5 yards, but mine will typically be more accurate since it's not influenced by the wind as much. If there's a tailwind, then he'll be quite a bit farther than me. If there's a headwind, then I'll be quite a bit farther than him usually.

When it comes to approach shots, he can hold the green better than me since his ball isn't going to roll forever, but I tend to get away with mishits a little more, as long as it's not a complete shank,  than him since I can land mind short and still roll it fairly close.

So even for those of us that can't seem to hit a high shot, there are some advantages to the low shots that want to roll forever.

I did manage to hit a beautiful high approach shot the other day with my 8i. I got it high into the wind and it went nicely over the pond and landed about 5 feet from the pin and rolled right about 2 feet. I just wish I could do shots like that more often, but have to take advantage of what I do best, which is hit the low line drives.

To get better i feel like you need a high shot that can land near flag and hold. Not a low shot that rolls off. The low shot is only desirable when needed. For a stock shot I would much prefer a rising approach that holds my target. I have developed the high shot from the drill video above.

    • I appreciate that you have taken the time to come back and update. Based on what was previously discussed I feel like the points were; forged, feel good, price, and possibly players distance. If you like the "looks" of those Maxfli irons and if price is a major point, then going straight to the source, Maltby, might make sense. Specifically, the TS3 iron. I was looking into this myself and found some reviews: Fit2YouGolf, Lets Play Thru, and ELITE FIT GOLF. As per your update I found the Maxfli to be ~$1300 fitted the way I wanted. Where the TS3 with the same fitting and assembled by Golfworks was less than $750. I suppose the downside is to actually hit the iron you will need to get lucky and find someone in your golf circle who will let you hit theirs or order a 6 or 7 iron to test. However, the way I look at that is being equivalent to some fittings. If you like the results and buy, then the fitting is free, otherwise the price of the fitting is a sunk cost. If name brand is important, then I submit for your consideration - THE BEST OVERALL IRON of 2024...... FACT !! 😉 A bit tongue in cheek that but also, I feel some good points were discussed.
