Standing behind someone while they putt.

I'm sure it's actually against the rules isn't it? Then once they've hit the putt you can walk behind and see how it rolls.

It is simply good etiquette to not stand behind someone's ball while they are playing, whether it be on the green or any other time.

My father-in-law kept doing this to me yesterday on the green and it was driving me crazy.

I can't stand someone doing that. Drives me crazy. I'm always tempted to let my club slip on my backswing and give them a center hit between the eyes.

I can tolerate talking or noise a lot easier than someone standing directly behind me. I need to look at the rule book more often, but I think there is a rule against a competitor (and I pretty sure even an assistant) standing directly behind a players shot line. If there's not, there should be.

Call it what you want, in my book unless it's in a scramble and that person is on your team it's very rude and poor etiquette. You can still learn something about the putt by standing off to the side out of the persons view. Also always stand still.

It's not illegal unless they're your partner. It is poor etiquette - stand off to the side and walk in after they putt it.

Occasionally I'll stand behind someone when they putt, but I'll stand WAY behind them so there's no possible way they can see me.

But yeah, stand to the side. If you can't adjust your 3D view being two yards off the line, golf is probably very difficult for you.

if you are a ranger/starter, it is practically mandatory to stand directly behind you (about 2 yards back) on the front.

I would apologize for making no sense. Are you telling me that the starter at your course stands directly behind you while you tee off? If so, punch him in the face. I guarantee it is the last time he stands behind you. I would find a different course to play if that really is the case.

As for standing behind someone while they are putting, not illegal unless they are on your team or your caddy. Just really bad form.

that's usually where he starts standing. Usually after a nasty look or two, he moves. Problem is, this occurs in multiple places.

as long as they don't move and turn off their walkie-talkie, it is a victory to me. And to be fair, its not all courses, just some of the lower level munis that i play a bunch of practice rounds on.
