I've been Playing Golf for: 45 years

My current handicap index or average score is:about 15-20

My typical ball flight is: slight draw

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: complete redo of swing - watching hires video using "Everyday Golf Coach" app on iPhone. Really helpful but I am "casting" in the last half of my downswing. I start down in good position and I am turning my hips well but then the cast. You can see the club is actually ahead of my hands at impact (on slow motion view). How do you resist that last fling? (yes I know about the bent arms at the top and I can fix that by not over swinging)

For some reason I cant see the vid. I had the same thing happening in my swing for a while some years ago. It was mental in the sense that my idea of where the club release was to occur was to me, logically, at the ball or point of impact of the clubhead and the ball. As my swing developed, it became more of a feeling of the release occuring past the ball going out to right field, and what was happening of course was that I was accelerating through the ball to arrive out, up and away with the club. There is a place in the swing for deceleration, but not at the bottom. The hands probably slow down at the exact opposite of where you started accelerating them, if you think of a smooth swing as having a beginning and an ending. The club will release without your help as you move it through the path. I actually quit having the problem when I started trying to work the ball left or right, as those differing swing paths informed me of more possibilities in the shots that make up my game.

    • Day 1: 2026.01.03 Played 18 at Cape Kidnappers. Getting back into it after a few days off. Mixed results.
    • Day 40: short range session. Worked on my drill mostly. Finished with some full swings and driver swings. Range was packed because it was so nice out. Solid session though.
    • Day 5, 1/3/26.  Today was a weird day schedule-wise, but I did find 15 minutes to hit 6-iron shots (indoors, off a mat, into a net).  I also got to thinking about yesterday's round and, other than a few thin shots (that I think were weather/grip related), I didn't have any wild non-driver shots, which was weird for me.  I need to get back to video, which is tough in my setup. Also, this wouldn't count on its own, but anyone reading this and thinking about doing their own 5 minutes daily, check out Fit for Golf's latest podcast episode.  It's only a few minutes and Mike does a great job talking about the importance of doing a bit each day.  That also reminded me, I let my FFG subscription lapse, I'm going to renew it.
    • Day 32 (3 Jan 26) - Misty, rainy day - opted to rehearse swing in the mirror - focused on face position at P6 thru P9.
    • Day 460 - 2026-01-03 Set up GEARS Hybrid for a lesson, so used it in the morning for checking a few things from yesterday.
