I've been Playing Golf for: 2 Years

My current handicap index or average score is: 12.5

My typical ball flight is: Average

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Slice or Pull Hook. I'm really just looking to hit straight shots consistently.

I started this season on 19 hdcp and got down to 12.2 in about June time and since then I've worked my way back up to 12.5

Things I have been working on with my pro over the past season are; Left hand thumb position further up the club, relaxing my wrists at the top of my back swing to get to parallel.  Keeping my legs planted like i'm holding a beach ball between my knees, with weight on the inside.

Thanks!

Hi, welcome to the site. Here's what I see.

At set-up I'd recommend getting the arch out of your lower back, more on that in this thread.

Then on the takeaway you roll the club head too far inside the hands. Requires a lot of "timing" to be able to get the sweet spot back to the ball and hit it solid.

Check this out, going to feel more "Rickie Fowler" on the takeaway. Club head is going to feel like it hinges UP.

Hello mvmac,

Thanks for your input, the takeaway is something i have always struggled to get the feel of, but i will hopefully get it nailed next week and post some progress videos for you all.

All criticism welcome!

We worked on a similar piece with another site member, @Jakester23

Here's his swing thread, check out the video, will help you with the feels you need for the takeaway.

Nowww then,
Just got back from the range, defiantly hitting a few more draws trying this, manged to get a few videos forgive the quality and angles, i hope you can get something out of them. Need to give dad a few lessons in filming.

Also I've recently upgrade to G25 blackdot from G5 yellow dot. I have been fitted twice first time g5s yelllow which got me down the 12.2, then recently after getting the g25s which was white dot weid. Do think this could be having an effect also? Im happy with the 25s but want to get it all a set color.

6 Iron

Thanks

That's good.

With the posture your eyes are down and you're bending your knees less but you need to soften the upper back. You're just standing up too straight, review that posture thread again.

Swing looks better as well.

I think your pieces are on the takeaway, more "Rickie Fowler" and more weight forward at impact.

The feeling i get with this take away is that it pull all my weight forward onto my right toes and i lose my balance more.  How can i improve my balance and weight shift, i suppose the squish it drill, i will butcher a tennis ball.

Thanks.

Yes, have to feel like the tailbone is tucked under you a little with the upper back "hunched". Will help with the takeaway stuff.

Even on the practice the hands are working outward. Watch that Rickie Fowler video again, hands go inward, club goes out.

Club is still too far inside the hands. Causes the head to go forward, or what you're feeling with the weight going towards your toes.

Need to feel the hands go inward with no forearm rotation. Also look at Rickie's posture, no arch in the lower back, "soft" or hunched upper back.

Helllo all,
Shot an 80 last weekend, very happy going into winter. Been working on all these points mvmac much appreciated. Defiantly feeling like im getting some where slowly.

Im feeling posture is the key more and more, because when you slouch more the shoulders will turn easier letting me not get so inside and cause me stay on balance by not trying to swing out so much. If that makes sense.

Heres a vid from tonight with a 20 hybrid.

Trying to keep the palm down.

Looks better but the priority pieces are still the same.

Keep working on this stuff.

    • Decibels is sound 'pressure' not wave frequency. From that perspective a SGI Iron will have very different pressure wave than a blade even with the same speed and other variables considered equal. Additionally, since your phone will not be in direct path the turbulence difference (which generates the sound 'pressure) will have much lesser variance. In other words you will have convergence at one particular speed. Maybe it's this 90MPH speed with your 6i. But I doubt you will have proportional deviation above or below the speed to give you anything will reliability.  And other speeds? 80, 90?
    • You could have saved us all some time by realizing I tend to know what I'm talking about when it comes to science and tech. 😛  What? The only way they would imply that it would be "possible" is if you were able to spend six figures (minimum) AND that doesn't include the swing robot that could reach peak speed at the same exact location every time. No, they didn't say it was possible for someone like you to do anything remotely good. Session to session. The PRGR doesn't work the same way - it samples the speed, from behind (inline with the direction of travel) with radar, and takes the highest number it registers. The distance from the PRGR isn't super relevant. You're not reading. Or understanding. No to both. The former is because of the microphones, and the latter is because a clubhead swing more closed versus more open will have a different air flow and thus a different pitch and volume. Clubheads are not symmetrical. You're missing the point. How reflective some of that stuff is could matter. The sounds it generates to background noise could matter. 85 dBs is generally considered ear-injuring volume. You don't "need to find an app" because this will not work at all.
