So, today the tournament started. I offered to volunteer and today I was score keeping the group of Christina Kim, Margarita Ramos and Line Vedel.

I love to see these girls playing. Christina shot a -7 (65) to take the early lead. Two eagles, one in the 2nd hole and the other at the 17. She left 3 birdies that were not difficult.

I don't know but they seem pretty slow to me. They take quite a lot of time on every shot. I know it's a matter of "being in the shot" but especially in the putts they take like forever and they read them from all the possible angles - they read the putt like 3 or 4 times, counting when the other player is playing, if that makes sense - and still miss some.

But still glad that I can be there and helping. It is a nice experience. Hopefully I would be able to "score keeping" Azahara Muñoz in the rest of the tournament. She's super cute.

Anyway, some pics!

Lexi, Paula and Suzanne

Natalie, Julie and Gabriela López.

And in case you were wondering, there I am, obviously out of focus but I'm the one behing the mini score board of the day. I made it to the Golf.com site. Hahaha. :-$:-D

Thanks!

Nope. :( When I was going to ask for a pic, some other dudes asked and then she went straight to the putting green, so I didn't bother. Still 3 more days left to get some pics! :)

Some pics from today. I was in the group with Gerina Piller, Pornanong Phlatum and Lizette Salas. Gerina smashes the ball beautifully.

7th hole Par 4

6th hole par 5

Stacy Lewis putting

Natalie Gulbis

Michelle Wie chipping

I have to say that i pictured her more friendlier but it's not the case.

Suzann Petersen...

Gerina Piller

Lexi

Beautiful Azahara Muñoz

Morgan Pressel. Very gracious, she teed off in the group in front of mine and she introduced herself to the score keepers in Spanish. I appreaciate that.

Some pics of the group

Hole 16th... Gerina was like 1 inch or 2 inches short of acing the hole.

17th hole par 5 second shot. Gerina missed it a bit to the right and got caught up in the trees.

And yes, in case you were wondering, the first time I saw Gerina was at Big Break and really liked her, so I couldn't leave this time without a pic.

Looks like you had fun.

My Dad followed Wie some when the Ladies Open was at Cherry Hills a few years ago. I guess her being crowd unfriendly was an understatement, he was really disappointed. Funny how ill-mannered male and female pros can be when they know the camera is not on them.

Nice you and Gerina pic. Still want to see a pic of you and Azahara though. Watched her group on TV today, she really needed a hug after the 17th. Where were you? :-)

If it was the US Open, remember they are there to try and win it.  Not everyone can be chatty with under tremendous pressure.  Imagine you are trying to give the presentation of your life and people unrelated to the project are on the sides of the conference room trying to get your attention.  Just saying'.

Yeah I've never understood that.

Just because some pros will go out of their way to wave or say hi (maybe it helps them, Lee Trevino would talk talk talk talk talk Ben Hogan wouldn't, that's how each was wired) or whatever doesn't mean we should expect them ALL to be like that.

Unless Michelle was RUDE I would suggest that she was just fine. Just being "focused" and tuning everyone out and not going out of her way to have prolonged interactions with people isn't rude.

I was at Oakmont when Paula Creamer won her U.S. Open there. My kid got her autograph and she talked to her for 15 seconds (in a rope line between 8 green and 9 tee IIRC). That was Wednesday. Thursday through Sunday you'd have been lucky if she glanced your way on the way from 8 to 9. Different mode, different personality, same player… Others prepare a bit more intensely too.

Michelle's coming off an injury after a pretty great start to her year. Her injury, as hers seem to be, has been slow to heal. This tournament is one of her few victories, and she'd obviously like to perform well. She probably isn't as prepared as she'd like to be given her injury.

Maybe I'm wrong and she was a total jerk… but I doubt it, and I hate to see reputations started simply because people are grading on a scale that's unrealistic.

I hear you.

And I wasn't there.

But my Dad was scratch growing up and played in lots of serious of amateur tournaments growing up in Illinois, he knows what the tournament grind is. He wasn't expecting her to be chatty or even talkative at all, as I recall he said she was spraying it some and was quite rude to marshals, bystanders, most everyone.  Rabbit ears when there weren't any sounds.  Don't recall the specifics more than that, that was what 8 years ago and my Dad's not around or I'd ask him. But he was really put off by it, had to be pretty bad for him to comment.  He had really been interested in her before and was completely turned off by it.

So yeah, I'd categorize it as rude. Maybe as she aged she got better (makes me think of the guy who was turned into a newt haha).

I'm pulling for her as well. She's been though a lot the last few years. It's hard to believe she is still only 30 year old.

Glad she pulled out the win in the playoff! Not a big fan of Shenshen, and it woulda been demoralizing for Christina to blow that lead. Thx for pix @atrapasuenos !!!

Unfortunately I wasn't in her group and I never got the chance to ser ver when she finished ver round. :( But I'm happy with the pic of Gerina, she is really cute IRL. [/quote] I agree on how they are wired but most of these ladies introduced theirselves to us (score keepers) some others didn't. And by friendly I meant it because on Instagram she looks like she is easy going, I thought she would be something like Paula Creamer friendly. She is not and I'm ok with that. On the playoff hole she was behind the scoreboard to watch Christina, I was there too with other friends and the head of volunteers told us to not ask for autographs, de didn't really want and autographs just a better place to watch the second shots. I'm not the kind of guy that asks forma autographs, the balls signed is like a courtesy they gift us from walking with them but I didn't asked any of them fot an autographs, justo Gerona for the pic :) and because she finished nice that day, she wasn't doing so good at the middle of the round, of she finished bad I wouldn't asked for the pic. To resume hahaha all I meant is I pictured Michelle different, with Kerr I was expecting ver to be cold and she is. • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
