I'm in the same boat. I just picked up the new Wilson Staff D200 irons 4-GW. If you like high and straight these are for you.

I use the Wilson Staff Di9 irons and cant fault them. I think the Di11 should be at a decent price now especially in the states (UK prices are around the £150 mark). Ebay is generally a good place to look, just make sure to research the seller or stick to the ebay shops.

That's a solid set right there.  I think at least a sand wedge and some sort of fairway wood is in order.  I'd find a nice used 5 wood and pick up a discounted older sand wedge.  Try looking for a Cleveland sand wedge or something similar in a new older model.  I wouldn't buy a used wedge, fearing worn out grooves. A decent stand bag and you're set.  Good hunting.

I was thinking of a 5w but was under the impression people were not using fairway woods anymore?

I guess with the marketing of hybrids, one would get the impression that we don't use fairway woods like we once did. I have both, there definitely is still a place for fairway woods in the bag.

Yea I would not mind having a 3w and 5w but I was not sure if they were replaced with the newer hybrids. Right now I just have a driver and 3hybrid. I used to drive with my 3w when I was a kid and use it on the fairway all the time

Since you like fairway woods, a suggestion. The Tour Edge Exotics XCG6 is being closed out now at good prices, Global golf and Budget Golf are online sites that have good prices on closeouts. I have this fairway wood and it is absolutely one of the best clubs I have found at a decent price. I use my 3w on short par fours off the tee. Whatever you decide, good luck.

    • I appreciate that you have taken the time to come back and update. Based on what was previously discussed I feel like the points were; forged, feel good, price, and possibly players distance. If you like the "looks" of those Maxfli irons and if price is a major point, then going straight to the source, Maltby, might make sense. Specifically, the TS3 iron. I was looking into this myself and found some reviews: Fit2YouGolf, Lets Play Thru, and ELITE FIT GOLF. As per your update I found the Maxfli to be ~$1300 fitted the way I wanted. Where the TS3 with the same fitting and assembled by Golfworks was less than $750. I suppose the downside is to actually hit the iron you will need to get lucky and find someone in your golf circle who will let you hit theirs or order a 6 or 7 iron to test. However, the way I look at that is being equivalent to some fittings. If you like the results and buy, then the fitting is free, otherwise the price of the fitting is a sunk cost. If name brand is important, then I submit for your consideration - THE BEST OVERALL IRON of 2024...... FACT !! 😉 A bit tongue in cheek that but also, I feel some good points were discussed.
