Hi,

I am trying to figure out what size grips to buy.

I wear a small cadet glove, and most ladies grips feel about right in my hands. All my shafts should be cut down .5", but I'm waiting for Winter.

Meanwhile, I have been playing by choking down on my grips by about .5" to make the shaft shorter and the grip smaller.

All my shafts are .600 except for my hybrid which is a .625.

All the ladies/undersized grips I have found are all .580 core sized.

It is my understanding that a .580 core grip on a .600 shaft would produce both a slightly larger grip and a firmer grip. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have also heard that nowadays it is standard procedure to install a .580 grip on a .600 shaft which makes a slightly oversized grip, but not quite midsized. The grips on my driver and 3-wood are definitely .580's but the grips on my irons aren't marked (mizuno branded tour velvets).

Am I better off putting standard men's .600 grips on my shafts or .580 ladies grips on my shafts, which will be smaller in final diameter?

Also, I guess I'm stuck putting whatever grip I end up choosing on my .625 hybrid too, which will run a little bigger than everything else in my bag?

Thanks in advance,

catfell

The only bad part of it "feeling right" is that because (now I am assuming here) that you haven't "used" anything else then really you don't know anything different.

I have used standard grips all my life and recently I got fitted by a pro and he told me that the next time I go to regrip my clubs use the Mid grip instead of standard. He said if the grip is too small then you have too much of the club in your hands and not enough in your fingers.

I regripped my driver with the Midsize grip and my misses are not as severe because I can't flip the club as much and so if I do flip or pull one it's not as bad. It has aslo weakened my lefthand grip a small amount. It doesn't come over to the right side of the shaft as much when I grip it at address, it's more neutral because I don't need to roll my hand around the shaft as much with the larger grip. Now I will be regipping all my clubs over the winter with the midsize grips.

Take yourself to a shop and see what the club fitter says, tell them where your misses are and what your desired ball flight is. When getting fitted to clubs, it's like your care seat, if you sit in an il-fitting seat long enough your body will just get used to it. Once you are used to it and someone adjust it (even it is correct for your body measurements), no matter if it is only one click different, you know it's different the second you sit in it. Now are the setting wrong - they might or might not be but they just feel different. Same with golf equipement, let your body get used to them, don't just swing it a couple times and abandon it because it feels different.

When you have new grips installed, make sure the installer stretches the grip down the shaft toward the club head. A pretty dramatic difference in the final grip size can be achieved like this.

Instight XTD A30S Driver 10.5Β° ($69 new ebay)
Instight XTD A3OS Fairway Wood 15Β° ($45 new ebay)
Fybrid 19.5Β° ($35 new ebay)
