Hi all,

I just got an ft-5 tour 8.5 with a stiff e360 shaft. I took it out to the range for the first time. The shaft seems really stout, I'm not sure if it's too stiff for me. My driver ss is about 100-104. I went with this setup to try and keep the ball from ballooning and gain more control. It does hit it very straight. I'm not sure If i need more time to work on timing the shaft. I'm interested to hear what you guys think.
P.S. anyone have this set up. do you get much roll out ?

Thanks

gotta tell ya man, and i'm not trying to be a downer, but 8.5 degrees of loft is going to give you a lot less control than say 10 or 10.5 degrees. i wouldn't worry so much about the shaft if you're swinging at 100 mph, then that's okay. but with that amount of loft, you're definitley sacrificing distance.

this is just my opinion, but hey you asked for it!

Hi all,

Are you guessing at your swing speed or have you actually had it measured. Mine is slightly higher than yours, and when I demoed the FT-5 with the E360, the shaft felt like a limp noodle to me. If that is your actual swing speed, then the flex should be alright, although swing speed alone is not going to tell you which shaft is right for you and your game.

Another post that thinks that maybe 8.5 might be a bit low on the loft. I haven't hit the Fuji 360 though. I have the same driver with 9.5 and a pured 65 gram UST V2 stiff. I personally like boring drives and my driver can roll out up to 40 yards on firm fairways, but that's the high end. Usually I get anywhere from 15-20. If I have to hit it high, I have to hit a fade. I have difficulty hitting high draws anyway, especially with lower torque shafts.

Hi all,

NO offense at all, but if you are a 36 hc as your thing says, an 8.5 ft-5 tour cant be the right driver for you. If youre swing speed is however over 100, the e360 fuji in stiff should be a good fit in terms of just stiffness. But like its been said, you should get on a monitor and see what kinda #'s it spits back out at you. Good Luck

Hi all,

You're 36 hcp and using 8.5 deg of driver? I hope you're smarter than just guessing the loft based on your swing speed.

Lowering the loft most of the time isn't the answer to maximizing driver distance. You need to maximize the ball carry, NOT ball roll. The key is in the shaft. If you take a closer look most of the members here with single hcp in the forum rarely use 8.5 degree. I recommend you to get analyzed by certified fitter and listen to what he has to say.

Ok I adjusted my hdcp, I'm playing off 7 currently swing speed has been measured on several occaisons. avg is 100-102. I'll give it a couple of weeks and see.

ah that makes much more sense lol. I'd give it a go and see how it works, 8.5 IMO isnt quite enough loft for a 100-102 SS (i hit 9.5 and was measured at 107 on a trackman).

I hit it on the range and the shape is very consistantl. 5-8 yard draw somewhat low, but I was hoping to get the driver not to baloon and maybe even roll out. I'll try it for a while I can take it back and get 9.5 if it doesn't work. Now to create an iron post. . LOL this forum rocks

I see. Perhaps the 9.5 degree will work better giving you your desired trajectory and while you're at it do also try 10.5 (who knows).

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
