I went to get a new set of irons adjusted for the lie angle. I hit every single iron off the lie board with the impact sticker on the bottom. The 5-8 irons need to go 1 degree flat but they told me the 4 and the 9-SW are fine as is. I saw the stickers myself and that's what they indicated. Does anyone else have irons that aren't all adjusted to the same angle?

Did they check the the lie angles on the unadjusted irons? Perhaps they were manufactured 1 degree flat by an error? Or are you saying the lie angles are now varying through the set? It is not entirely clear to me.

They did not check the angle on the unadjusted clubs. The impact stickers indicated that only some of my irons needed to be bent.

It seems entirely plausible that only some of the irons in a set might need a small adjustment and some not simply because of the how imperfect an individual's swing mechanics might be. Or am I completely missing something?

I'm hoping so. We're only talking a difference of a degree, it's not like some were bent up and some down or something wacky like that. I'm glad they adjusted them based on the results of hitting each club. It's just that I hadn't heard of that slight discrepancy in any one else's setup.

I think off angle sole striking is common. I have a tendency to grab the end of the grip instead of the middle, and that makes the head lie angle need to be very precise. Flexibility in having some shaft/grip length to work with seems useful to me, except for the idea that I would end up out on the end of the shaft maximizing distance and possibly getting off angle. I tend to club up and choke up when the ball is above my feet, so I could see how flatter lie would help me when the ball is below my feet in clearing through the shot, while not hurting the shots above my feet because I am choking down the grip on a lower lofted club which makes elevating the toe of the club easier. OP, most clubs are off angle to each other because the shorter the shaft the less distance the head travels and the quicker you close or return the club to square. An easy way to find your personal range is how you do with the very longest iron and very shortest wedge. Most are given to us as 64-60 degrees, but that does not mean its just perfect for you, but it is a fair starting place as you experienced, from which clubs can be customized even if they are hard to bend cast heads.

@colin007 , I know so little about the process that I have to, first, trust that a fitter knows what he's doing and secondly, that he takes enough pride in his profession to take the extra effort for when a hacker like me buys clubs from him. Fortunately, the more knowledgeable members of this forum are always willing to share information.

As you pointed out, at least your fitter took the time to measure you for each club. Mine had me hit a few different 6 irons, I picked the one I liked,  and he called it good. He seemed reluctant to bend the clubs 1 degree but told me hid did when I picked them up. He was either very bad at what he did, or he believed the clubs were close to being ok as is.

As I noted in another post, I was very underwhelmed by my experience. It sounds like you found someone who knows what he's doing. Please let us know how you like your new irons after you've played a few rounds with them.

I appreciate it, @JonMA1 , I will definitely be doing the Sharpie test just to corroborate. The guy knows me, I'm in Golf Galaxy so often. When I got the clubs years ago, they were supposed to have been bent for me, it's just that when I finally broke them out, they looked like the toe was up a little too much, I'm wanted to get them checked. My instinct was right, but only a few needed to go flat, not all, according to the impact tape.
