I am looking into buying new clubs this golfing season. I have been looking into the Callaway X2 hot and the TM Speedblades. Does anyone have any input on the subject, or any suggestions to any other clubs to buy

They're both great. I like the gunmetal finish of the Taylormade but its sound is deafening. Honestly, you're picking between essentially the two most popular clubs on the market a year ago. Try them both and pick which one you like more or is cheaper. They'll play virtually identically. Personally, I'd go with the SLDR irons from Taylormade. They're a tiny bit more playery but I love the way they look.

I settled on the Speedblades.   I had Callaway X20 (don't know much about X2 hots) and the Speedblades added 5 - 10 yards of distance, PW - 5i, respectively.   Although they had stronger lofts, they were just as forgiving and straight as the X20s.   Speedblades definitely fly higher so if you have high ball trajectory already, you should try them out in field before settling on it.

One big difference besides the added difference was how forgiving (true to distance) the mid irons (5 & 6) were compared to the X20s.

I test hit the X2 Hot and X2 Hot Pro when the models came out, but I thought the original X.Hot versions felt better.

I found neither to feel very substantial when swinging them. I like to feel a little weight behind my irons. Two weeks ago I hit the clubs you mentioned plus Titleist AP1 & AP2 714's. All were standard/standard, the Titleist felt the best and performed the best. The AP1 is noticeably more forgiving. As a baseline, I also hit my 10 year old Infiniti 302's and found they were still within 7 yards (max) of the Titleist. I put $800 back in my wallet.

I still are up in the air. Hearing lots of goods and bads on them. Any input on the Mizuno jpx-EZ or the new 850's?

They are both great clubs.  It really comes down to your feel and preference.   Everyone has a different opinion.  I don't like the titleist irons but the other poster does.  I like my TM irons and he probably doesn't.  GO PICK WHAT YOU LIKE.  :)

I couldn't agree more. Go try as many different clubs as you can, figure out what you like best, compare those to your current set to help ease the transition or to see if you are really gaining anything. If you decide to pull the trigger on a new set, get fitted fot them. Your new clubs should fit you, you shouldn't have to change to fit new clubs. ;-)

I will say you can get the EZ's for cheap on ebay if that's what you decide.

Cheaper than last year's TM irons? I've seen the SLDRs going in the $2-300 range already. I wish I were in the market for clubs. It's a buyer's market.

Probably not but you could get close.  I too have seen several of the golf deal sites offering the sldr irons for $399 or less.

Just joined this party, but I agree 100%. I just did this myself and ended up trading from a set of Ping G10's to a new set of X Hot N14's...after demoing the Rocketbladez vs 2 Callaway models (the sets within my budget of >$400). Also hit my G10's in the simulator to establish a baseline. I hit the X Hot n14's the farthest and straightest by a significant margin over my old clubs and the others I demoed. So demo these clubs and decide for yourself what fits your game best. Good luck and hit 'em straight! Red

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
