This year: hurts shoulder due to photographer, hurts elbow, has strep throat and flu, withdraws after shooting first round 80's a few times, wife leaves him, he or his wife goes to jail (I forget who), and all around shows the world he cares nothing for golf or anything else.

The guy is playing off sponsor exemptions this year, and maybe next, but after that, he's done. And if he really owes all that gambling dough, he's really done.

I think his wife went to jail.

John Daly is probably one of the most talented golfers in a long while. If he had his life in order and Tiger's discipline, he'd be playing much better. A part of me wonders what it would be like if Daly had Tiger's habits from a young age. Is he done? If he doesn't get his life in order, maybe. I suspect Daly's smart enough to get his life back on track one of these days.

The chapter that Rick Reilly does about Daly in his book "Who's Your Caddy?" was interesting. Talks about how Daly always felt like he was having to live up to everyone else's expectations, and much of that is what drove him to drinking. He just decided one day that he didn't care what other people thought and I think this is why we haven't seen Daly produce all that much on the PGA Tour - he just doesn't care.

I look at JD as just a sad but talented guy. His life decisions are very bad and just don't add up for him..his choice of women is obviously not very good, and I think JD's the type that NEEDS to have someone with him. He needs to be alone and learn to be ok with it..

His game, well with all that talent it's a GD shame that it's being wasted..

You may be right. I fully expect him to get a years worth of sponsors exemptions next year but if he plays and acts like he has this year then I imagine that will get old quick. He really does need to show some sort of game. He's still fun to watch so I hope he turns it around but I am not too optimistic. Especially when we're talking about a 40-something year old in the kind of condition he's in.

Yeah, it was his wife. And if you think JD is a bad dude take a look at her resume.

Daly is extremely talented and if you listen to a lot of PGA pro's he has the ability to be one of the best but I'm not sure I buy that stuff that says he's the best ball striker out there or has the most potential or hits it more pure than anyone out there. You either do it or you don't and for the most part (he does have 2 majors...) he hasn't. I have my doubts about him being smart enough to get his life back on track but we shall see.

His ex-wife went to jail for either drugs or embezlement or both. It was something like that.

JD will never be "done". He will get sponsor exemptions until the day he croaks because people will come out to see him. He's the closest thing the tour has to Happy Gilmore. Except he doesn't win very often.

IIRC, she went to jail because her FATHER was mixed up with a drug dealer and she, as the accountant for her father's "real" business, probably knew something was going on and helped cook the books just a little.

So, neither drugs nor embezzlement, really.

This includes a 28 for his back nine. Whether John is back to form or if this was just a hot round remains to be seen, but this has to feel good for him.
