hey I'm looking to upgrade from my Rocketballz stage 2 4 wood. But I'm just debating on sticking to regular flex or going up to stiff flex. I currently hit driver about 240 on the carry. Its regular flex, but im just worried if i step up to stiff that i might not be able to get it airborne or keep it airborne. I'm looking at either SLDR or the SLDRS 3hl fairways.

Any help would be appreciated.

My numbers and handicap are about the same as you. My entire set is R flex (I wasn't fitted). I have a Nike Covert Tour 1.0 3 wood that I adjusted to 13° to use as a mini driver sort of deal. That club is stiff. I switch between that club and other woods throughout the round and have no problems whatsoever. I prefer the feel of the stiff myself, but performance-wise, I see absolutely no difference. I wouldn't stress too much about it. Pick whichever you feel better with, your performance is unlikely to suffer.

For what it's worth, I didn't like the SLDR woods when I demoed them. The R15 I prefer when I tried them this weekend. The 16.5° HL I tried for the first time and it is a joke how easy it is to launch from the ground. Stupid easy. From reviews, I understand that's the club to try because the standard R15 regular is tough to launch for some. Something to think about in your choice. Obviously, try all the clubs you can and get whichever you hit the best.

Tempo is just as important as swing speed when picking flex.

If you have a smooth transition from the top of the backswing into the downswing you can stick with regular flex.

If you get after it right from the top of the swing, stiff might be a better fit.

And of course, you'll need to demo because shaft flexes have no standardization, even within the same brand.

Last line is the most important.  Shaft flex varies from vendor to vendor.  I typically use a R flex but found that with the Ping 30 SFTec that I needed the S flex.  You have to test and demo the clubs with the shafts you are considering.  While most people put emphasis on the head, the shaft flex has a major influence on ball flight and dispersion.
