howdy all, here we go. I have been range ratting for solid week, practicing the proper grip I learned on this site and taking my club over on the back swing and under on the down swing. I have been doing ok but my distance was not right, my 7 iron has been going 130 to 135 all my clubs where off prob. 15 to 20 yards. but let me say I have been consistent straight. today after hitting some thin shots I got frustrated and set up to the ball and took a pissed off swing with my 7i. man that ball went right to left landing past my target of 147 but on my target line. I noticed when I made the swing I felt like I held the club face shut for as long as could. so I hit another with the same swing thought and bam, 145 on target bal going right then coming back left. confused I took a break think I'm just getting lucky. after my break I checked my backswing in a mirror and I noticed the my left hand was flat at the top usually my left hand would cup. I returned to my mat and went through 6i to 4w using this swing thought and the worse shots I could hit were a pull or a slight miss to the right. the I grabbed my g30 driver, hmmmmm, well first shot was a pull, after that every thing I hit with my driver went low and left, I changed ball positions trying to get the ball high in the face.couldnt make it happen. I still can hit all my clubs with this swing, my 4 wood is smoking hot, I maybe came over the top with it 5 times out of 50 balls. my irons 6i to my wedge are great. but everytime I tried to hi my driver I would get this low left weak shot, goes maybe 150 yards. note: club face feels closed to me but I would say it's looking at the ball in my takeaway any advise? thanks, Tom

here is a picture of my 7. in the past the fake grass would cover the bottum of the club front to back. but after countless shots this is all the mat that shows.

Tom, there's two different swings within the makeup of an individuals swing. The driver swing is one that is supposed to be sweeping the ball off the tee and the irons are more of a going down into the ground. We leave, or at least most leave divots with the irons (some I realize pick irons cleanly), and for some, taking a divot with fairway woods is also the norm. From your explanation, it sounds like your putting your iron swing on your driver.

Hate crowned cups.

I agree with the above. Check out this thread: http://thesandtrap.com/t/77244/how-to-hit-a-driver-hit-it-further-and-stop-slicing

Sounds like you are getting a downward trajectory into the ball with your driver, when you should be looking to hit it more on the upswing. The thread I linked above explains it in detail along with some tips on how to position yourself and the ball to help the process along.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
