I do this exercise in several forms, weight machine, stretch bands and medicine ball.  I use whatever is available.

For weight machine, I do similar to DLIII, but with a slower motion for strength work and I hold the position in between.  For stretch bands and medicine ball, it is more explosive motion with slow release.

Fitness Friday: Why you should be doing chops

By Ron Kaspriske

There are many variations of the exercise called chops. As you might imagine, the movement gets its name from the similarity it has with motion needed to swing an axe. The reason why chops are so good for golfers, says Golf Digest fitness advisor Randy Myers

s that they help improve a number of components to making an effective swing.

"They help with everything from tempo, to weight transfer, to improving torso strength and shoulder mobility," Myers says. "The golfers I work with do them often."

As I mentioned earlier, there are many versions including reverse chops (going from low to high across the body), kneeling chops and pull-and-push chops (moving a bar across and then away from the body).

But to keep it simple, Myers suggests doing a standing chop to improve tempo and weight transfer from the ground to the core and mid-back region, and a kneeling chop to improve torso strength and shoulder mobility.

You can use a medicine ball, dumbbell, or stretch bands to perform these exercises, but ideally you would perform them with a cable machine. To see Davis Love III demonstrate these exercises, click on the video below.

    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
    • I've played the Tour in both white and yellow.  They play well and seem to hold up pretty good even when running into trees or cart paths.  Right now, I've been trying them against the Bridgestone Tour B RX ball and I really like both.  The Snell 3.0 looks to be a great update to the issues Snell was running into with the previous generation.
