I was on my forth lesson this morning.. We worked ONLY on my driver..

Ever since I went to this new hibore I couldn't hit it at all..

I had a 975 8.5 degree before and always hit it straight and about 230 or so yards..

Well I have a 105-110mph swing speed at 100% so they upgraded my shaft on my driver and I was still slicing the hell out of it.. It was so bad and so annoying.

First off I would never swing the club, I was always scared to give it a good powerfull fast swing, so I would only swing about 70mph.. My pro really taught me how to swing this driver. Not only this driver but any driver. My problem was I was swinging it like an iron and almost hitting down on it, my back swing was like an iron as well.

Needless to say my final swing almost got me on the record board for their machine.. They have the top 5 guys who drove the furthest, lowest being 325, highest 355, My final swing with 104 mph swing speed, with impact tape on my head, dead middle sweet spot and it went 316 yard with no wind..

It felt great and I am once again excited to go out and swing this bad boy.

Gonna go to the driving range later :)

Not to burst your bubble at all - I'm glad you had a good lesson - but 104 MPH and 316 yards is impossible. Theoretically the most you could reasonably expect to carry the ball with 104 MPH swing speed is about 260 yards.

Tiger's 300+ yard drives are a result of his swing speed being over 120 MPH, and you know his launch conditions are pretty close to perfect, too.

Well remember, it was a machine, so its obviously off here and there. But I did have a ton of roll, so even if I carried 260 yards it still would of went about 280 or so with the roll I had :) That being said, is there a chart that you're going off of?? I am curious to see swing MPH and max. distance

Swing Speed * Smash Factor (1.5 for perfect contact) = Ball Speed

Swing Speed * 2.5 = Approximate carry yardage for near-perfect launch conditions and contact I learned the second rule (I knew the smash factor one beforehand) at the Titleist Science Van driver fitting sessions I attended. Obviously it doesn't account for wind or whatever. Want another 2.5 yards? Add 1 MPH to your swing speed without worsening contact. Adding 25 yards, as you can see, is quite difficult. Not many people can add 10 MPH swing speed.

Hit about 70 balls at the range before and must say I pretty damn excited..

I realize my problems quickly. First off I had my right thumb on TOP of the grip and not on the side, which was an issue. I was hitting my driver like an iron before and not sweeping it and finally I was not extending my arms to generate power.. All in all, at the range, and the markers in place I would say I was hitting around 250ish.

At the end I tried some crazy stuff, I brought my back swing all the way around till I could see the head again, and whipped it with all my might, I tried about 5 balls and completely missed all but one, I hit one so hard and so perfect I am pretty sure it went 300 yards or pretty damn close to it..

Now tomorrow I will see if I can put all of this to use.

exactly what you don't want is to see the clubface whene you bring it back, that means you are bringing it around on too steep a plane(your wrapping it around your head). my teacher told me you never want to bring it any further back than perpendicular to your head

I think what he was trying to say was that he was just fooling around with different things at the end.

True and their are a couple of pro's who actually do bring the club head around that far.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
