What's going on with Nike golf?

I got fitted by the Nike Tour Van when it came to my club. The guys did a top-notch fitting.

But, the third man in the van was a regional Nike merchandising rep who likely would return home once the van left his region.

One thing I did notice from hitting their clubs, and monitoring their market niches with Golf Digest -- they have no super game improvement (SGI) irons in this year's mix.

  • The Nike Vapor Speed is a friendly GI model, with a minimal amount of offset. It comes with a variety of shafts, many with just a slight upcharge - this is the one I got fitted for, and would buy if I decided to retool. Speed has hollow cavity longer irons (3-7) and RZN cavity short irons (8 through AW).
  • The Nike Vapor Pro Combo is a friendly Player's model, with RZN cavity longer irons (2-7) and muscleback short irons (8-AW).
  • The Nike Vapor Pro is a shotmaker's iron with forward weighting to allow lower trajectory, muscleback throughout.

Is Nike bailing out on the casual golfers?

I tried the hybrids also. Did not get to try the Driver, FW or the new multi-color wedges (hadn't been issued yet).
