I have heard it works well though illeagal.
I gt my mom to buy me some chapstick gunna try it on th range tomorrow tell you how it works.heres my question.
can you use like scotch tape, or double sides tape instead?It works the same right?Blocking the grooves.
help me out.

its not that you are blocking the grooves its that the grease(ect) act a a lubricant and prevent the ball from spinning as much as it normally would

is tape sticky? is grease slippery? youre looking to cause less friction between ball and club face. perhaps ONE sided tape would work a little bit.

I disagree that it's "fun" (that's why I said "pointless") and the rules obviously don't apply only to golfers on Tour.

It's not only pointless, it's counter-productive and a waste of time. And imagine if he does find the ball goes straighter? Then he's just tempted to cheat. Nothing good to be gained there. If you want fun with ball flight, go hit the largest hook and slice you can. Hit your 5-iron as high and as low as possible. Do something that'll teach you things, too.

Interesting topic. I've known about it for years...shocked that more people don't know about it. Big time golf gamblers have been "greasing" their (our) golf clubs forever ;) I can't believe it has taken this long, but there's finally a company selling a golf slice coating product specifically design to reduce side spin.

Rambler, you're right. It has nothing to do with filling the grooves. Its all about reducing friction. If you have a slicker surface, it will always help the ball go straighter.

Who's to say what makes golf fun for others?

Hitting a ball straighter is more fun for most average golfers, and this works.

I get the logic of trying it once to just see what it does, but as an ongoing thing, that is pointless to me too.  Also, if I were gambling and found out, there would be more grease to stick it places I won't mention on them.
