Can someone put the various Cobra drivers/fairway wood models in order of release for me? I'm getting confused between the various "Speed" (LD/ST etc.) models in the market currently. A local course has an F-Speed Demo for $179 but I'm not sure if it's the newest or last year's model. I'd like to know if it was a really good deal or if I could get a new club without the "Demo" designation for $20 more from tgw.com. I'll be back at that course Wednesday to check it out again.

Thanks in advance.

The F-Speed is a model from about 2 years ago. The M-Speed, F-Speed, and X-Speed all came out around the same time. They all had "Speed Tuned" Aldila NV shafts (NV-M, NV-F, and NV-X) which had different weights and different kick points to ideally fit the people buying such clubs.

The HS-9 Series came out last year, HS-9/M, HS-9/F, HS-9/X which were pretty similar to the original Speed models except that I believe they added the composite crown and starting pushing the "9 hot spots" technology, hence the name HS-9. They all came with "Speed Tuned" Graphite Design shafts, with the same philosophy as the Aldila shafts from the Speed series.

Late last year came the LD and Speed Pro models. This is the one that is extended further back with more pronounced "cuts" on the crown. These are the ones that make that very composite sound at impact. I believe the LD M and LD F come with Aldila NVS shafts made for Cobra using these "Speed Tuned" stuff again. The Speed Pro models come in a D and an S model, Deep Face and Shallow Face respectively. The S model came stock with a Fujikura Speeder while the D model came stock with an Aldila VS Proto ByYou.

On the way is the new LV4 models which have gone back to the normal M, F, and X designation. They have kept the "Speed Tuned" shaft idea but this time have gone with Diamana Redboard shafts. Unfortunately that's about the limit of what I know on the LV4's at the moment. If anyone sees anything wrong with this feel free to correct me, kind of going off of memory right now.

Thanks! That's exactly the kind of thing I was after. I just started golfing last year wasn't paying attention when all these were released. So the first generation were just M-F- or S-Speed, the HS-9s were next followed by the LD and now the new (just saw them for the first time in a catalog) LV4s.

After a quick look at TGW.com I can buy the HS-9 model for $199 brand new so if the DEMO at the golf course isn't the LD model I'll skip it.

Thanks again for the help!

i tried a hs9 x 9.0 because of the new l4v coming out and is similiar to that is what I've been told. I love the hs9 x, I never hit one before or thought of it for me more distance and straight. If the l4v is better I want one.

    • Worst thing on Sunday was that NBC and Peacock wouldn't let me FF through the commercials on my DVR recording. Very boring when a guy has a huge lead on the final round and everyone else is playing for 2nd place. At least it was USA 1-2-3 in the end.
    • First day of a trip to Bandon Dunes. We played Sheep Ranch today. A Coore/Crenshaw designed course. A par 34 on the front and 38 on the back. With 8 holes with either a green, tee box, or the hole runs along the edge of the bluffs at the pacific. It has amazing vistas. With wide fairways and intermixed gorse bushes. The defense of the course are its large, undulated greens and the daily winds from the north. Many times you need to take 3-4 clubs more, if you even barely cross the wind, your ball can be taken offline or come up half to a full club short. A fantastic layout.    here are some photos.
    • At Sheep’s Ranch, Bandon Dunes. Shot an 84. That wind was nasty going from like hole 7 forward. It was like a 3-4 club wind if in the face. Greens are tricky with the natural grass.
    • Yes. The full swing is not that different, and speed is important with all of them. You don't see Tour players hitting their driver 310 and then hitting their 7I 160. Of course, but they're nothing like those for the full swing.
    • How about with the high numbered irons such as the 9 iron? Is the swing the same with that? If that's the case then I stand corrected.  OK, although there is physics involved in the putt too.
