I sure am glad I got my hand-me-down set of Eye2's now that I'm hearing all this. I've only hit them once at the range since I got them Monday. Can't wait to see what they do on the course!

Be sure to go in for a fitting anyway then have them adjusted if necessary. Before you get fitted you can go to the pinggolf.com website and do the static fitting. This will let you know whether you're in the right ballpark.

You won't get the full benefit if the clubs are not sized to you.

My eye2+ are my first set and I love them. They're so balanced.

I'm going to treat myself to a new set, probably from the i or g series, but I'll be keeping these and having them adjusted as my back up set.

According to ping's website, the black dot is what I need (and have), but they have the senior shafts and the website says I need the stiff ones...reshafting is not in the budget, lol. Every other set of irons I've had I cant hit the 3 or 4, but this one for some reason, I can hit them pretty well.
I'm only at 13 clubs in the bag, what do you reccomend as a 14th? My foot wedge?

Browsing the threads and thought I'd give the Eye2s another mention. They were my first set of (non-junior) irons, and they still just feel right to me.

The first set of irons I ever owned were the Ping Zing 2's.....Bought for me by my folks as a high school graduation present.

I hacked up courses all over the southeast with those things, and they still look brand new.

I guess I missed the Eye 2s......They're obviously the overwhelming choice of Pings here. What made them so special?

I have owned most Ping irons from Eye 2's up to G10's and IMO the G10' are Ping's best irons. The Eye 2 + wedges may be better as I am still working with the G10's, but I believe the G10's wedges will require some grinding to compete with the Eye 2 + wedges.

I finished it off with a coat of sealer, Menzerna FMJ Paint Sealant ..."

I hope none of those went on the club faces....otherwise it's USGA violation.

if i bought and old set of eye2's does anyone know where i can find out what to use to recondition them myself?

The copper one's??

I hope none of those went on the club faces....otherwise it's USGA violation.

I have v-groove Eye 2s (1983, original zz-lite stiff shafts) that were bought used but in very good shape. Do your own research on stainless steel, and then choose which products you want to use and which to avoid. Every once in a while (rarely!) to clean them, I use new steel wool and that waxy club cleaner as a first step, but you have to be careful and not leave any remnants of the steel wool on the clubs. After every round I just use plain water, however if they need better cleaning I use orange clean or simple green but immediately follow with dw soap and water and rinse thoroughly. Then I hit them with wd40 and wipe that off thoroughly. It may be illegal to leave wd40 on, but I think pretty sure its OK to use if I wipe it off. I did this all when I first got them, but like I said they were in good shape to begin with. They look good after cleaning, ss has self-healing qualities which helps a lot. I don't use any topcoats of any kind, ss doesn't like that. Even with some minor dingeyness in the cavities, they don't look 24 years old.

i agree the eye2 is a great forgiving set of irons but i only have the sand wedge to supplement my ISI set i found on Ebay in pristine condition for about 400 bucks. I have played newer pings, clevelands, calaways and nikes (even taylor made though i hate to admit it) and i will go to battle with my ISI set any day of the week. i'm only 34 but the truth is all new irons are about the same and they simply don't make them like they used to. good luck.

Depends on what player we're talking about.  For me it's the i3 or the i20.  S59 irons were very solid as well.

    • Hi all. I have sought permission from admin to post this here. First, here's a quick link to my products on TST, which a few of the mods have been road-testing...  Most of you would be aware of the import tariffs imposed on importers to the US circa September last year. Prior to their introduction, I was selling a decent number each week into the 'States. Since the tariffs came in - which added ~AU$60 to the total cost of getting them over there - sales have dropped to virtually nil. I think fear of the tariffs is the biggest part rather than the actual cost increase, despite me declaring everywhere on my site that we pay the tariffs and have successfully got every order into the US without any problems since. What is still unknown to most US consumers is that these tariffs will DOUBLE in February as Australia Post will no longer be allowed to offer "private" rates, they all change to "commercial". I do indeed think that this will make the products uncompetitive to ship there. So what's the backstory?  I'm a small Aussie business, not some corporate juggernaut. I invented these products - not a reseller for someone else. The import tariffs double in February, so add another ~15% to the total cost. If you want StanceMate alone I can do a super deal on a run-out model PREVIEW HERE (note you cannot purchase this yet. I think the shipped price will be about AU$110 inc Shipping (tariffs included). If you want to reduce the cost of the whole Stryper Plus Bundle I can swap the runout StanceMate to reduce the overall price by AU$60. These work EXACTLY as the newer version, just not as premium quality in the way the finish is achievbed in production) IMPORTANT: All import tariffs are PRE-PAID at my end, and clears customs no problem. I've sent a half dozen since October with every one delivered. NB: I'm not here to get into the politics of the decisions on tariffs, so let's not go down that road. It is what it is! So StanceMate to your door in US - tariffs prepaid - about US$70 Bundle to your door in US - tariffs prepaid - US$240 Bundle (with version 1 StanceMate) to your door in US - tariffs prepaid - US$200 Cheers Corbs
