I own a pre Mizuno Bettinardi putter, the BB-1 Short Slant. It is an anser style comparable to the Cameron Newport Beach ( a Newport with a sound slot ). I find the construction and finish of the putter every bit as good as the Cameron putters I have or had. I've not owned a Bettinardi since he signed with Mizuno, but from their looks, they seem every bit as good as they were in the past. I think Bettinardi makes a superb putter. Like Scotty Cameron, Bettinardi markets his products very well, although he doesn't yet enjoy the cult following Cameron putters and paraphernalia enjoy; regardless, the putters, themselves, are very fine.

They're BOTH too effing expensive.

I just got a Bettinardi C-02 and love it. Could just be the fact that it's more expensive, but it definitely feels better than a $20 putter. I've tested a bunch and this thing is solid w/ a great feel. Took it out for my round today and got the hang of it pretty quickly. I'm happy with it, and that's what matters to me.

i wish for once we could have a putter discussion without someone chiming in saying they cost to much. putters are like underwear, if they feel good and fit your eye then sport em.

Price is important to me, that's why i didn't pull the trigger on the Cameron 299.00 vs 229.00 but could prolly get it for 200.00.
I really liked it until I felt the bett today, I'm going to see if I can find a C-03. Putting is my strength and I've had an old oddesy for 12 years. I putt better then my golf mates, but I still feel like I miss too many so I was going to try a change. I'll keep checking in until I find out.
The odd thing is, these putters are quality high end, but not many pro's use them and they dont' seem to sell as well in the stores from what I see. Odd they seem solid.

No one complains about the price of the driver they hit 13 times a round, half which probably don't find grass, and they replace every year. What makes you more pissed, missing a fairway or a three footer for bird.

As far as putters go, I say it's all how it feels! If it feels good get it unless it's 800 putter, and trust me I'm getting my 4th putter of the season this weekend. It's feel, I had an odyssey that I liked but just didn't have it, then a never compromise mallet voodoo, now a TM mallet monza corsa rezza wtf ever it is.. now I'm waiting on a used Scotty for $100..probably should not have bought it, but it feels amazing! I feel 200% more confidant using my buddies scotty than any of my putters..and it feels awesome.

What ever! I'll have a $300 putter and a used 905T $75 driver that I hit better than my buddies ft-i/5/and 3! 1500 worth the drivers to get outdriven by a guy 5" shorter and $1425 richer for not buying those drivers... and I'll out put him with my putter!

A $20 Wilson putter from Walmart will work just as well.

If by "work" you mean "not work at all," I fully and completely agree!

There's a minimum amount you've got to spend to be virtually guaranteed you have a good putter. I've checked out cheap putters on loft/lie machines. Some had negative loft. On some you could twist the head off the shaft. And on other the sweet spot was almost an inch from the indicated spot. So... no.

I'm not recommending that you buy a cheap putter ["Wal-Mart Special"]... just that a $300 price tag is more than I want to pay. I go the frugal route, generally avoiding the latest bleeding edge products in favor of prior-year or older models, both in golf and other areas as well.

My driver [$40] and putter [$30] were eBay acquisitions and are hardly the latest models, but they're quality clubs and serve me well.

If paying top prices for the latest and greatest works for you, by all means go for it. I'm just saving that money for other uses, that's all.

    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

    • Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
