My longest drive happened this year in a golf league match. It was 361 yards from an elevated tee with very little to no wind. The fairway was pretty dry because they did have irrigation pipe leaks they were fixing(didn't water fairway for about a week) and I did get a lot of roll. Still, the ball did carry about 315-325 at least.

The funny thing is that it really didn't seem like I was swinging the club all that hard. I certainly don't hit them like this all the time. I do usually get it out 290-315 on this hole normally with a good hit.

Ok fellas!

I am not in this forum to bash, slander, or to make one's accomplishments seem bogus or fake.

CRAZY HORST: Congrats on the 315 yrd drive. Even though you thought mine was a pile of S...??

and to everybody else...even 30 handycappers can have a perfect shot and nail a drive 300 yards...even with a swing like Charles Barkley.

Why bash him because he is new to the game or does not have time to practice like you and I??

I personally, dont know how I hit a 371 yard drive, but the GPS says I did. It could have hit a rock in the fairway or a bird may have caught it and ran with it or by some freak of nature I just pounded it all on my own. I will never know? But I do know that one of my close buddies, who is new to the game, and has no clue as to what a handicap is, managed to square his club face and pop a drive 300+ yards...and he has not done it since.

I love golf and I love the game and I will continue to persue that perfect shot once again.

I didn't think your drive was a pile of s....; I merely find it to be rather difficult to believe.

300 is extremely unlikely. I personally think most golfers have never even seen a 300 yard drive much less hit one. I can't tell you how many times I've played with guys who pop one, get out there and say, "Wow, that went (290, 300, etc.)," meanwhile the tees are up 25 yards, it's a dogleg where you can't go by the white post on the side of the fairway, it was a 2 club wind, downhill, etc.

I know an assistant pro here in Myrtle that carries his driver 310, and I've never seen anything like it. I find 371 nearly impossible to believe. I should have been more eloquent in my explanation, and for that I apologize.

My longest drive is 250meters or 275 yards. No wind, maybe 2 meter drop from tee to fairway. No downhill. Have just played 1 time with my driver... Hope to "break" 300 yards next year:P

I don't think it is difficult to believe at all. At my club, I'm considered a long ball hitter and there are 2 or 3 other guys that are longer than me. In fact, I've seen a really good player "pop" one 350yrds on an severely uphill hole... no wind (no roll all carry). If the hole was not up hill, I bet it would have been close to 400yrds total distance including some roll.

BTW: I think 371 means that is where to ball came to rest...(not carry distance)

The longest drive I've ever hit was at a course called Oak Quarry in riverside California. The course always has wind whipping through it, because of its canyon setting and the location of the course. Number 5 is a fairly long par 5 downwind i crushed my shot and the ball came to rest at the 417 mark, which left me a 3/4 sand wedge into the green. No my best ever without wind is probably 354, at my home course Costa Mesa Country Club. 371 uphill? Now that is impressive my friend.

Ok, now I'm thoroughly convinced it's not true.

Why? Because you cannot do it? or have not played with anyone that can do it? Just what makes it so impossible? Stuart Appleby has been known to hit some 400 yard drives on tour in a tourney(that too, must be unbelievable).

BTW: I'm talking about drives that happen once a season(if even that)... not something that happens all the time. Hole in ones are also extremely unlikely, but I'm not gonna say that I'm thoroughly convinced that it is impossible to get one, just because I haven't got one(yet)

I cannot, and neither can 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of golfers on this planet. Stuart Appleby is Stuart Appleby. Let's not get Tour players mixed up with your buddies at the club (aside from the fact that even Stuart or Bubba Watson can't hit a ball 350 all carry).

Asking me to believe that you know a COUPLE (i.e. more than one) buddies down at the local muny who can hit THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YARDS UPHILL is almost akin to asking me to believe you've been on the moon. I may have been born on a Wednesday, but it wasn't yesterday.
Hole in ones are also extremely unlikely, but I'm not gonna say that I'm thoroughly convinced that it is impossible to get one, just because I haven't got one(yet)

I was refering to someone else here, that said thier longest drive was 371, which I think is certainly possible.

I did not say a Couple. I said, I'm considered a long hitter and I know there are a 2 or 3 that are longer than me.(scroll back)

I said I've seen it done(the 350yrd drive uphill) once, by one person(a very good player at that). If Stuart Appleby cannot carry a ball 350, how can he hit one 400+ yards? Are you suggesting he gets 60 or 70 or more yards of roll? Lastly, Stuart's physical stats Height: 6-1. Weight: 195 lbs. Age: 36. Mine are....Height: 6-2 Weight: 205. Age: 37 The guy that hit the drive in question is slightly larger than me... and about 9 or 10 years younger than me...(I don't know his exact stats). Certainly he has the potantial to hit it at least as far as Stuart by physical size... of course, there IS a degree of luck involved too, (ie the perfect hit) but again, certainly possible.

It's called downhill, downwind.

Are you suggesting he gets 60 or 70 or more yards of roll?

On a 400 yard drive? Absolutely.

Lastly, Stuart's physical stats Height: 6-1. Weight: 195 lbs. Age: 36.

I didn't say it was impossible; it's not impossible that you've been on the moon, either, but you would be one of the 0.000000000000000000000000000000001% of people on earth who have.

Has your buddy won the RE/Max World Long Drive Championship? Because then I could believe your story.

He's not really my buddy... Just happened to be playing with him that day. Not a long drive champ but did qualify for USGA state finals. If I didn't see it a probably would not believe it either... but I did see it(do you want me to lie and say I didn't?) FWIW: I also think it is EXTREMELY more probable that someone could drive the ball this far as opposed to being on the moon... sheesh!

crazy_horst,

I have noticed that you live at Myrtle Beach (about 30ft above sea level). I Live in MN about 1,300ft above sea level. I bet there is some difference in how far the ball goes by that elevation difference. Hmmm? I don't know???

crazy_horst,

That would make a difference, but a marginal one (maybe 2-3 yards). 5,000 feet is about 10% of club distance.

Whatever, I certainly don't mean to call you a liar, I'm just sayin', that's hard to believe.

Probably has to be one I hit this past summer.. 377.. was a little downwind.. maybe 10mph.. conditions were dry and I landed in some firm rough that was laying flat towards the green, it took one bounce out of there, and then hit the fairway.. I never saw it bounce and roll due to the mound that I hit, but I was suprised at where the ball was..

However.. I hit one about 6 years ago with older equipment.. Mizuno TZoid Titanium, can't remember the ball.. it wasn't a Pinnacle or anything though.. downwind about 15 mph.. UPHILL, then downhill. Meaning, the landing area was above the tee, but it was sloping back down at the point that it landed, so the roll was nice.. Hit that one about 375.. I will always remember that drive..

crazy_horst,

Absolutely.. I played in Vegas a few years ago out in the mountains (Bear's Best) , and hit a PW from 155.. took a huge bounce after landing right around the front of the green, and made it to the back 1/3rd of the green..

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
