My best personnal drive is over 345 yards, but, the thing is that I drove right in the middle of the cart path, lol, so the ball made about 50 yards more. But if I don't count this drive, my best one is a superb controlled hook in the right middle of the fairway, 295 yards off the tee.

  • 4 weeks later...
I have a particular hole at a muni course I play a lot that I have some sort of mental power over.

It is a par 4 that measures 420 from the blue tees and I have been about 75 yards out a handful of times this year.

The math on that is about 345 yards.

Its purely a voodoo hex of some sort I have put on the hole and not awesome power.

My average on good straight drives are around 275 yards or so.

In the bag:
Driver: R7 Quad
Irons: Eye 2 + (Red Dot)
Wedges: Vokey (52, 56, 60)Putter: Anser G2iBalls: (Pro V1, NXT, DT Solo, Whatever is handy)

Robert Trent Jones at Oxmoor Valley in Birmingham, Alabama

Hole #7
Par 5 (dont remember the distance from tee to green)

With the GPS on the cart I measured my drive to be 371 yards.

Mid-summer with the air so stagnate that gnats would eat dinner off my forehead!

This is a flat hole with water on the left. Perfect timing, perfect swing, perfect contact and managed to find the sweet spot on the ball as well.

What I used:

Taylormade Burner Driver
Titleist Pro-v1
epoch 3 1/4 tee
and a swig of some good ole' ALABAMA SWEET TEA. :)

Well said!

As I said, 315, well downhill, 1,200 feet above sea level (yes, it matters) and probably 85-90+ degrees out.

371? But I'm not going to argue with you, you are seemingly one of 4 people on this thread who was honest!

Lol...yeah, I know. You've been one of the few here also not sugarcoating or inflating things. I'm sure the 315 was sincere.

But...I just couldn't help it!!

It's a failing

I just saw that my wife had uncovered the scorecard from our trip out to AZ when we played together. I remembered that I was pretty sure my longest drive was out there, and apparently I walked it off as best I could at the time, as the scorecard had a big 347 circled on one hole. Yay for dry fairways!

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

Oh, c'mon, guys. My good friend is about 6'3", 240 lbs and has one of the fastest swings you'll ever see. He bought this custom-made TM driver from a friend of his, a guy who was on a small tour and had an arsenal of clubs. I think it was like 8.5° (my buddy hits it really high), XS shaft, etc... I used to watch him absolutely slobberknock that friggin' thing, but he always hit his irons super high and short, and his short game was marginal, at best, so I bet he falls around a 15 or so, all while continually drawing gasps from playing partners who saw his tee shots.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

Ok, that's fine.

What do you think his longest personal drive to date is, though? It's gotta be over 350. If you're friend really is that fast a swinger (size and weight don't matter much, of course), then he has to be sailing it way past the 350+ mark that most of the members here reach on a regular basis.

I usually can't hit my driver at all so I use a 5 iron off the tee.

Nobody will believe this but here goes anyway.

One day on the par 5, 12th hole at the public course in Barbados I hit a 350 yard drive with a 30 MPH wind behind me. An 8 iron onto the green and a 30 foot putt for eagle.

Everybody deserves to have a hole like that just once in their life.

I was convinced that I had hammered (for me) a beautiful, high slight draw 295 yards. The hole was marked from the tee box as 319 to the center of a small green and I drove it to the fringe. For me, this was a monster drive because I've never hit more than 265 on the driving range.

I went to Google Earth the other day and got the distance from tee box to mid green and it came up 266 yards -- looks like I only hit it maybe 250. I now don't trust the technique of subtracting the approach length from the stated tee box yardage to assess my drive length.

You can do that on Google Earth? That's freakin' cool!

You're right, though, a lot of factors go into it. Sometimes if it's a slight dogleg, tees are up that day, etc. Then again, yardages for some holes are flat out wrong, too. But there ain't nothing wrong with a 250 yard draw off the tee, either!

Are people here saying they hit that

regularly , or they hit it one time ? Yes, I'm sure my buddy has hit one well past 350 at some point, but on a regular basis, he's probably 280-300 (and, yes, occasionally, he just toes one 240, too). Regularly, I'd only call myself a 260-275 guy, but there are days - for whatever reason - I'm really hitting the sweet spot and touching 300 nearly all day.

    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
