I have a steep angle of attack when swinging my driver and fairway woods (leave irons out of the conversation for now).   I want to keep playing while I work on my swing so what driver and fairway woods are better for a steep AoA? I've gone for higher lofted drivers (10.5-14*) but I've started to think that maybe the 9* driver might be better with a steep AoA.

Your initial conclusion was correct. Higher lofted woods will help curb the launch issues associated with a downward AoA.

Thanks for the response.  I'm playing the cobra baffler rail fairway woods.  They have a relatively shallow face.  Would a taller face benefit?  I am working on improving my swing but I want to have more success playing with the swing I have now.

If your AOA is negative, and you are producing too much spin - then something like the lower spinning drivers with a lower loft will help with the shaft as an adjustment.

It is also depends on how much forgiveness you need as to which driver level.

I would suggest shallowing out your swing instead of using a band-aid.

I am working on shallowing out my swing.  I just want the band aid so I can have some success and less frustration while I am working on my swing.

You can move the tee forward in the meantime if you have a negative AOA to somewhat negate it - plenty of threads here on simple solutions to seemingly complex issues.

Still, with today's drivers when you have a positive AOA you can stay with the lower lofted heads ... I am using a Callaway V Series (forgiving) at 9 degrees, and my SS varies from low to high 90's. I get a high launch. Some people are moving down to 8 degrees - depends on the driver, AOA, launch, and your swing, etc.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
