Just wondering how many people here golf alone. I'm having a bit of trouble getting my golf fix late in the year. A lot of my friends and normal playing partners won't go out if in the fall if it is below 50 degrees. I'm not sure if its tacky to go alone, but I think it could be fun doing an early morning weekday round when nobody is on the course maybe listening to an iPod.

I play most of my rounds alone. Mainly because no one will play as much as I do and I actually like going to other courses. I get tired of playing the same courses over and over and over. I take my Ipod and play away by myself all the time.

i go out alone on my course a bunch. like usually afternoon sometime. it's nice to be able drop a couple balls, take some extra practice shots, do a little more practice while there aren't very many people.

however if there's someone with a spot, i'll join them.

either or, i'm content

I play on my lonesome, since most of my friends have other things to do and play casually, whereas I play far more regularly. I have one friend who plays weekly, but he plays at a course past my price range, so he and I don't play together all that often.

I play by myself when my mom has to go back to work, or if I finish my homework then I go out by my self. Like it has been said it is nice to take more time, take extra practice swings and all of that, also if I hit a bad shot out of the sand, fairway where ever I can take another one.

Here's what I play:

All the time. I played Monday, by myself, for about six holes (I caught up to a twosome) and today I played an entire round, solo.

I'll drop a few balls on all the par 3s, nowhere else.

That's the great thing about NYC golf. Once the summer is over not many people go out.

I just started playing, but i go by myself i don't care. Matter of fact, today i went out to a nine hole course bymyself and had a blast. Just got my mom, dad, and gf interested so hopefully we'll all be able to play together one day.

I really enjoy just walking out by myself sometimes. I get to completely determine my own pace and just breath in the beautiful scenery and fresh air.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

i enjoy playing alone, because i can determine the pace of play.

however, recent events seem to indicate that i should be playing more with partners.

problem is, i have noticed that because of tight schedules, i always play at a very fast pace. even when i free up my schedule, i still play at a fast pace. so when i play with partners, regardless of how fast they play, i still get impatient as the pace of play is slower than what i'm used to. this really affected my tempo and golf swing.

until i am able to effectively control my tempo, i guess i will refrain from playing alone for a while.

I like playing alone too. You can't do it all the time though as Keiyoz points out, the slower pace with a group can effect your rhythm. Recently I've been enjoying listening to music while out. It blocks out the yells of other groups, tractors, traffic etc. and seems to help me focus.

I use playing alone time for practice and try hitting shots I'd not try to hit while playing for a score.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that tractors are an issue at the golf course. haha

    • ..maybe 1 shot HC change might be a good starting point..
    • Yeah, I have a similar view. I was in the team of 2 and we got down 5 after 5. Get 1 pt if win the hole - whatever that game is called. We lost it 3 down with 2 to play so almost saved it. After the first hole when the single did a putt, then dropped a second ball, made a slight adjustment and sunk it, we thought it wasn't right. We couldn't do anything with handicaps etc so we just made them wait between putts - usually just one of us to putt. We were a 23 and 25 handicappers (probably playing to about 28) and the single was a 16 handicapper, but somehow had a HC of 20 (so that is 1 HC pt already). In terms of making it fair, and changing HC (HC1 + HC2 / 4), I think maybe adding 2 HCs to the double (or taking 2 HC off the single (after the adding and div by 4) might make it fair. Also maybe making a rule that the single couldn't change clubs for the second hit. Hard to say from that one game but possibly: - 2 shot HC adding - can't change clubs for second shot - need to have other team putt in between their 2 putts   Not sure. Do you think you'd still win or have these rules made it unfair the other way? Cheers for thoughts..
    • In that case I double down on my comments - I'll take the single guy and I know if I'm in that match against two similar players I'm pretty confident that I'm the favorite.
