right...heres the lay out..i played a pretty easy ish course, par of 64, shot a 75. pretty happy with it. that was on a good day, bad days usually come out with high 80's low 90's. Not too good.

-dont like hybrid sets
-i will take my long irons anyday
-want to gain distance
-like forgivness
-i dont work the ball more than a simple 10 yard leftish ness or righty.
-like a high ball flight.
-i dont like huge irons, but not blades either..mid size./

handicap- estimated at 15 ish

i think the mizuno mx, calloway x20 or tm r7 would be perfect for you. i think you wouldnt like the cleveland cg4 or the tm rac. demo them all and let us know ;)

I just ordered a set of G10s and can't wait to get them. They are the easiest hitting clubs I've ever swung. That being said, they might be a bit super game improvement for you. Have you tried the i10s?

I've also been demoing a bunch of irons lately (Raptures, G10, i5, MX-25, X-20, i-701) and the MX-25 and Srixon i-701's are battling it out for a spot in my bag. I've noticed that there isn't too much variation in all the irons I've hit regarding bad swings. To me if you have a decent swing, then a bad swing is a bad swing with most irons. Play what you find most comforatable.

Regarding the Pings I noticed that the G5 and i5 fit between the i10 and G10. The i10 moved more towards a "players" club and the G10 moved towards super game improvement (basically Raptures without the titanium face). I liked the i5's the best and was surprised that the long irons were much easier to hit than they look.

The MX-25's were softer than I thought they'd feel (coming from MP-60's). Their heads are also bigger than I thought they'd be, but still feel really nice with the added forgiveness over the MP-60 that I'm looking for. Think they'd be much better for me with S300 in them instead of the stock dynalites.

The i-701's are forgiving w/ smaller heads (think thicker players club), but don't really feel as good as the MX-25's. I'm going to keep playing each and we'll see over a couple more weeks.

You're leaving out the best of all, Callaway Fusion! Why?

- Easy to hit even the long irons. - High ball flight. - Extra distance. - Ultra forgiving. Some even reviewed that the only forgiveness you could get more is from the church. - Due to its forgiving feature, it's quite tough to work the ball. Meaning -> your shots go straight, man! - Medium sized sole and top line, it's even smaller than r7 and X-20. - Soft feel at impact. - A excellent transition sets between high-mid-low handicap. A set that is playable until the end. Hope this helps!

You might also look at the new Mizuno MP-57s. Although they may be slightly above your level, they are great clubs for the mid-capper and offer a happy medium between the MX series and the blades. Just a thought.

Okay, I don't want to start but I don't believe in handicap cutoff in deciding whether or not someone should play certain irons. Have you ever thought there'd be someone with excellent ball striking ability with irons, but suffers greatly with short game and putting? That's exactly that. I'm not implying a beginner should use blades right away, it's just that handicap index doesn't directly translate to how bad someone is with his irons, but more likely to his game. My 2 cents.

P.S: Laxplayer: I think you should put MP-57 on your list as well.

I was in the exact same situation as you. I went to www.golfclubdemo.com and tested out sets of CCI-Forged, X-Forge, and r7 TP. I ended up going with the X-20 Tour irons because I absolutely loved the X-Forge but needed a little extra forgiveness which the X-20 Tours provide.

Try titleist 775.CM/ 755. The first ones will surelly improve your game. I had those, but then I had the chance to switch to the 735.CM, so I did it

I would suggest the Callaway X-20s. I used to exclusively played Hogans and they are the closest in terms of the feel of a forged set...where you can feel your shot.

They set up really nice. The steel shafts are really tipped well to where you feel your shots well. The shot dispersion is very very tight...very consistent.

i have really, really been lookin at teh 755....i like how they look/feel, but im really not sure if they are quite forgiving enough..

went to the store last night, hti the 775's..felt good when struck well/bad, but if i tried to get a little more out of it, they felt really, really harsh, not too sure if i like the offset..


mizuno mp57- really didnt like...just, idk, didnt like em

r7's- even pure, they had a weird click to e,m...

755's-didnt have, but i did swing, and the seemed nice, but im not sure if they are forgiving enough...

How do the X-20's compare with the X-20 tours in terms of forgiveness? I'm considering moving to the tours for the better loft spacing and a better shaft.

Smaller head, thinner top line, less offset = less forgiveness... But they're not as hard to hit as X-Forged. I've hit the X-20, X-20 Tour, and X-Forged and I'd say the Tour are closer in forgiveness to the Forged than they are to the X-20. If you can't stand the look of the X-20 I wouldn't discourage you from at least trying the Tour but I'd be very hesitant at recommending you move to a "player's iron" until you cut your H.I in half.

Speaking of the X-20s....one option would be to pick up the X-18s for now at the great price they are selling at....then reconsidering your next irons after further development of your golf game.

ps...I play X-18s and I honestly don't think there is much difference in the playability of the X-18s and X-20s. X-20s might have a tad more weight in the sole which I don't need.

hi, my dad plays the titleist 755's he plays to about a 10-12 handi he is a good iron player has absolutely no trouble hitting the 755's ive hit them many times they are a great iron more forgiveness than the callaway x forged with about the same feel in my oppinion, I would buy 755's in a heartbeat over any irons for a mid handicapper I highly suggest these irons...hope the input helps.

ok, well, i was reading a club test issue of golf magazine, and i saw the 755's as better player irons....now, i am not a better player...not at all, i can shoot 70s one day, hundreds the other...and i am woried about them beeing almost, too much club for me...any other ideas? that are kidna, more out there, i seem to have hit every club so far...and none really stick out///
