With the golf industry talking of making the game more friendly to women, Golf Buddy has delivered the sleek new LD2 GPS watch.

It offers GB’s first every dual-shot feature, which determines how far each shot is hit for each hole. The display screen is bordered high and low by 18 Swarovski crystals.

Just as club manufacturers have started designing clubs just for women, GolfBuddy has done the same with distancing devices . Earlier GPS watches were unisex items that were just too bulky for women, says Edna Lee De Pamphilis. Women have smaller wrists, so the LD2 takes this into account its slender stock white watch band.

But there’s more. GB offers a mix of several different colored bands to allow women to accessorize the watch for different outfits.  MSRP for the watch is $249.

Golf Buddy entered the market in 2003 with hand-held rangefinder, and has advanced to the point of being the only company that offers all four categories of golf distancing devices: talking, laser, watches and hand-held. “We offer golfers the full dish,” says De Pamphilis.

Besides the specific products, GB offers consumers the benefits of their proprietary database of more than 38,000 golf courses worldwide. She notes your don’t pay extra to get downloads of overseas courses.  “This benefits international golf travelers, because there’s no additional fees (when playing) outside the USA because GolfBuddy has its own database.”

Golf Buddy has refined their laser systems so that are not a safety threat to the eye, which has earned them a Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Class 1 certification.at, says DePamphilis.

DePamphilis studied psychology and criminal justice at University of California – Irvine, with hopes of becoming an FBI agent. She ended up going into marketing for the Brown Shoe Co.’s athletic footwear division before switching to Golf Buddy.

Other new GB products include the PT4 Advanced GPS, which gives golfers a full-hole and full green views on its screen, and a digital scorecard. MSRP is $449.99

Also, GB offers the Voice 2 audio GPS. You clip it to your belt, or your hat brim, and touch it to get a voice-announced distance reading. Many people prefer this to having to look at a digital display in the sunlight, or taking a range-finder reading for every shot. It comes in rose gold and royal blue.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
