I've owned a few clubs in my golfing life, loved some hated some, can't remember most of them, wished I hadn't bought a lot of them, but one club stands out, and to get it you would have to pry my cold dead hands from around the grip - my 2005 TaylorMade r7 425 driver standard model 11.5*

This club has a slightly closed face which I've overcome with address and a little clockwise twist of the wrists at the top of the backswing, opening the face, a little bit like Hogan used to do (he was almost paranoid about hooking the ball). The 4 weight system means it can be adjusted to fly high or low, and "helps" to correct a slice or hook. Set up properly, it flies long and straight with an impact sound that is pure joy to the ears, and it's damn good looking to boot.

I had a driver once that was Wal-Mart value.  Cheap of course, but I could hit it miles.  Then I upgraded!  Wish I hadn't lol

Isn't that the way though ! sounds like you "downgraded".

Find a club that loves ya and protect it by all means fair or foul.

This is why I keep the old driver for a period of time after purchasing a new one. You never know when you might decide to go back to the old one. If I really like it I will keep it for a long time even if it almost never gets used.

I have a Adams Super S Speedline 15 degree loft 3 fairway wood that is one really sweet and forgiving club. I have used it as a driver many times and most of the time I have been able to out distance many of my golfing partners who use their big 460 cc drivers. I bought it new on ebay last year for the low price of $37.00 and it's worth 5 times more than what I paid for it.

I have one of those and I'm too scared to sell it because there are times when it slays them off a good lie on the fairway.

The most noteworthy change in my bag came when I transitioned from long irons to rescue/hybrid clubs and the model or brand is not relevant in my situation.   The difference in being able to advance balls from poor lies in the rough and to be able to hit these clubs high and and soft into long par3's and 2nd shot approaches into par5s changed my game.  The weakness in my bag was always between 5-iron and 3-wood.  Now I don't even carry a 5-iron!!  LOL

I now carry a 5-wood and both 4 & 5 rescue clubs and my game has never been better.  My home course has a couple of reachable par5s with downhill lie landing areas with hazards fronting the greens.   Approaching these greens with a long iron from a downhill lie was always a bit sketchy to say the least!!  Now I can fly the ball in high and soft without worries of poor contact.  My home track has a 220-247yd par three that has become a much easier hole with these clubs in the bag.

What's in Paul's Bag:
- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Driver
- Big Bertha Alpha 815 3-wood
- Callaway Razr Fit 5-wood
- Callaway Big Bertha 4-5 Rescue Clubs
-- Mizuno Mx-25 six iron-gap wedge
- Mizuno Mp-T4 56degree SW
- Mizuno Mp-T11 60degree SW
- Putter- Ping Cadence Ketsch

Very similar to my setup, 3 & 4 hybrids and irons start at 6, a 4 wood has replaced both 3 and 5 woods. I do like the hybrids and could almost replace all woods except for driver - Not too long ago I picked up a vg Sonartec MD 19* hybrid for $29 which is a cannon off the tee and fairway, almost temped to have it replace my #4 wood but I wanted to keep a second wood.

contd.  That's a long par 3 !. Can't think of any here that I would need to haul out a long wood. I've always had trouble with long irons and the hybrids have been a godsend. At one time, hybrids were my main clubs - no woods at all.

It's not the brand. I have a TM R15, which is excellent, I also have an Odyssey putter, which is like a magic wand. My two favourite clubs are Dunlop Tour Red Hybrids which cost me £10.50 each ($15). They have heavy heads, which helps increase the swing speed without effort.

In my bag (Motocaddy Light)

Taylormade Burner driver, Taylormade 4 wood, 3 x Ping Karsten Hybrids, 6-SW Ping Karsten irons with reg flex graphite shafts. Odyssey putter, 20 Bridgestone e6 balls, 2 water balls for the 5th hole, loads of tees, 2 golf gloves, a couple of hand warmers, cleaning towel, 5 ball markers, 2 pitch mark repairers, some aspirin, 3 hats, set of waterproofs, an umbrella, a pair of gaiters, 2 pairs of glasses. Christ, it's amazing I can pick the bloody thing up !!

My TaylorMade Jetspeed 3 wood is an absolute howitzer. The crown must be extremely thin though, this is my second club because the original buckled the crown.

My Cobra Baffler Xl 4 hybrid. Love it!!! Easy off the turf and the tee. Love the sound, ball flight, and the fact that I rarely hit it poorly. Only other one is my Nike Method Matter putter. Best looks and feel ever and it was a gift from my wonderful wife and precious son. So those two are staying in the bag.

yes...this par-3 is a beast regardless of tee choice.   There are areas of concern missing either left or right!!

My best claim to fame is I birdied the hole on a day the tees were back-----to a back pin....257yds to the pin.  I hit 3-wood to 10ft and made the putt.   To this day, I've birdied this hole many times, but that day was easily the most memorable.

I normally play more forward tees when the hole plays around 220yds.......the approach is a rescue club.
