I will be in Beaverton, OR in the next couple months to visit relatives. Any suggestions on area courses? Up to 20 miles or so away. Not looking for real expensive courses........up to 80 bucks a round or so.

Oregon has some really nice golf courses. Many are a short drive from you, some are a bit of a longer ride.

I ranked them on the distance to Beaverton.

1. The Reserve - a 36 hole facility and is usually in great shape. South course is slightly better, but both are nice.

2. Pumpkin Ridge - There is a public course which is nice, and a private side which hosts a Nationwide Tour event and has hosted US Amateurs. If you can get on the private side you should go play there also. The course does not drain all that well so I recommend you wait until the end of the season to play there. The public course is also very nice a nice test.

3. Heron Lakes - Another 36 hole (maybe a theme here that the top 3 all are 36 hole facilities) facility. Both course are fun to play.

4. Stone Creek Golf Club - This will be a drive for you. Maybe 45 minutes from Beaverton, but I really like the course and they have some great deals to be had. Awesome views of Mt. Hood on a clear day also.

5. Private Golf Clubs - In my opinion the jewels of Oregon golf are the private clubs. Portland Golf Club hosted the 1946 Ryder Cup and a PGA Championship. Awesome old time golf course. Waverley GC is also an old timey jewel. They have redone it in recent years and it is also a great place to play. Columbia Edgewater hosts the LPGA is always in great shape as well.

There are a number of other municipal courses that I have not played but heard good things about.

    • Day 316 - More swings, full backswing and full finish.
    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
