I have played with Mizuno MP32's for years with DG S300 shafts. I bought a set of Ping i5's on EBay that come with the stock ZZ65 shafts. The trajectory is a little higher than my MP 32 with the S300 and feels a little less stiff. I guess my question to those of you who use Ping irons what effect would changing from a stock Ping zz65 shaft to the S300 would have on the i5's? I am going to call Ping to ask them also.

EDIT to note: Ping said the ZZ65 was lighter than the S300 (109 vs 124g), but the stiffness and bend point were the same. I guess I am used to the heavier shaft. I could have the ZZ65's reshafted with the Cushin Insert to get it a little heavier.

Any comments?

I'm sort of surprised by this. I've had several Eye2/Eye2+ sets, and I've always wanted to try S300 shafts in them (never enough to actually do it, I guess!). Did the Ping rep recommend a lower trajectory shaft?

By the way, are you a Razorback fan, Gapwedge?

^^No, I like the Hogs ok, but I am huge University of Kentucky fan. I transplanted to AR from Kentucky in 1973.

The DG S300 produces a nice low to mid trajectory for me which I like. The ZZ65 does ok, except they are much lighter in shaft weight than I am used to and have a slightly higher trajectory. Some of it may be the club head itself. I am not certain of the lofts of the MP32 blades vs the Ping i5 as to whether one is stronger than the other for a given iron. I will be changing grips (came with the Ping Aqua grip) and getting the lie changed before I can make an honest evaluation. I still love the MP32 blades but as I am getting older (54) I want something that gives me a little more forgiveness on mis-hits. The i5's are very nice in that regard. Anyway, it is good to have a second set around the house.
