Hi everyone, thanks for reading.

I was just wondering if people on this forum think it is good to use a full set of the same brand clubs...like a full set of titleist from driver to putter. I am trying to get a full set of titleist but was wondering whether I would be better to get the best in each type of club..ie. Driver Taylormade.

Do you think there is an advantage in the clubs 'matching'

Thanks in advance

Driver Titleist 905R 9.5* (Stiff Prolaunch Blue 65g)
Hybrid: PT 585.H 17 * (Stiff titleist 75g shaft)
Irons: 695.cb 3-9 ( Dynamic Gold S300)
Wedges: 735.CM 47* PW, Vokey 200 series 50.08 Oil Can Vokey Spin Milled 54.10 Tour chrome, Vokey Spin Milled 58.08 Oil canPutter: Wilson Staff Kirk Kurrie #1[CO.....

My first set was all Callaway pretty much.
X460 driver
X series 3 and 5 wood
X-18 Irons 3-SW
and an odyssey putter
all came in a Callaway cart bag too.

Slowly piece by piece i have been changing stuff but i cant see a problem with going with one company from top to bottom. Especially one like Titleist. In my opinion anyway most companies these days are pretty level when it comes to the equipment they produce. I think it would come down alot to "feel" and what you like. Personally i don't think i would be able to tell you the different between a Titleist driver and a Taylormade driver without looking at it.
anyway my 2cents.

OK, thanks for the reply, I also didn't find much difference when hitting the D1 and the Superquad. I think I will continue with titleist as they are obviously great clubs with #2 driver, #3 fairway and #1 iron, wedge and putter. More replies are welcome

There really is no advantage. Look at some of the guys who are paid to play any clubs and you will always see a mismatched favorite in there. Where it is a factor is in your irons and then seperately in your wedges. Other than that, it is most likely in your head, but that is important too. If you feel better you will play better.

I think forcing yourself to use all the same brand is putting yoruself at a disadvantage due to the fact that your not looking at the other brands. If you use all of the same brand because that is what you like, cool. But personally I dont care the brand, I usually find myself sticking with the same ones mostly because that is what I'm used to and comfortable with. But to each his own.

For instance one guy I work with will only use Taylor Made products. Weather or not they are right for him, weather or not he likes the look and feel. He uses them solely because they say TM on them. That IMO is teh wrong way to go about it.

I don't see any significant advantage in terms of, say, feel or playability. We use drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, putters, etc. for such different things and they are made in such different ways, I just can't see it being relevant to playing shots.

I do realize there are certain, mostly aesthetic reasons for using one manufacturer's complete line. It's worth whatever you think it's worth, which may not be insignificant.

i think that a fully matched set is not a good thing... forcing yourself to play only one brand of clubs will not allow you to reach the fullest potential you can have... i would definately not mismatch wedges though... not wise to have one 588, one vokey, and a TM TP...

I've been taught consistency and everything-thing-same. Whatever agrees with your eyes and causes the least distraction, eh?

There will always be an oddball club in the bag of a pro here or there. Case in point -- Golf Magazine's profile of Zach Johnson's bag in 12.07 issue:

A Sonartec 3-wood.

Whatever works for YOU and is consistent to your eyes, my friend. HTH

    • Yeah I really want to avoid the rabbit hole if I can  🤣 I'm not sure I'm going to make my lesson Tuesday though, whatever I did to the back of my hand at the range is getting worse, but that's a whole separate issue 🤣
    • Rory becomes the second person after Tiger to pass $100 million in earnings on the PGA Tour. Earnings always favor recency since purses go up. Scottie's first win was in 2022, but he's already at $75 million with "only" 18 professional wins. Rory McIlroy $100 million career earnings PGA Tour, joins Tiger Woods Until Sunday, Tiger Woods was the only golfer in the history of the PGA Tour to surpass $100 million in career earnings. Now he has company.
    • Can't tell 100% from your videos but if your right hand is too far underneath the grip the tendency for most folks is to roll it close through impact little too early. Try putting your right (trail) hand more on the side of the grip instead of underneath at address for a simple enough adjustment. This might help. In general match-ups matter greatly and you might have to make corresponding changes. I wouldn't even begin to suggest whatever those might be. Best to get a good pro to help. Self-diagnosis/experimentation can work for some but for most it's a rabbit hole.
    • Been away for a few weeks. A bit of tumultuous times at work. We had about 4% our exempt workforce laid off. My project from hell won’t let up. Just been burnt out the past couple of weeks and the cold crappy weather. Back at it now. Backswing drill - working on swing path feels. Right wrist bent, more feeling the palm facing away from me. Feeling the hands stay in front of me more.  Downswing- Feel like I make a big long arc with the butt end of the club to my right pocket. More out away from my shoulder. Combining this with recentering for timing. When I make a 60% swing, the clubhead feels like it’s arching from the inside and lower way more.
    • Its tough, "greatest" is subjective, measured in many different ways, while goals and assists are simple numbers.  And even simple numbers aren't always directly comparable across eras, as you mention.  A truly amazing coincidence, if Ovi scores 2 goals in the next 2 games, he'll have exactly the same number as Gretzky (894), in exactly the same number of games (1487).
