For the TaylorMade MWT.....what is everyone's experience with the yardage trajectory change by moving around the weights in the clubhead?

Also...what is everyone's settings? Neutral, draw, etc?

Once you use the MWT and switch back to other clubs that don't have the adjustment (either back to another driver or when you swing a fairwaywood without it)....do you turn back into a pumpkin and have odd flights?

I have a r7 425. I do not tend to notice the difference in the ball flights only when i set it neutral:high or neutral:low. Although i am pretty confident at changing the ball flight and can easily hit a draw or fade on demand.
Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose.

I changed mine around to neutral low the other day at the driving range. I couldn't get a handle on the ball. I would hit some really great shots that seemed to go a little further but they were few and far between. So I set it back to neutral high and was smacking them straight again.

i have the r7 460 mwt(2 weight ports) with a reg proforce v2 shaft, i had it set at 2 in the toe and 14 in the heel to help cure a slice which it did, so i brought some extra weights 20 and 8 in the hope for more distance but found not much if any in it. if any thing it made me over swing witch put me out of shape, so at the range i swapped and changed and found 2 toe 8 heel seemes to work just fine. i have not hit any other drivers yet, but do set my r7 to neutral some times which i hope will give me some idea to what my swing is doing with out a little influence of the weights

So does the modifications actually do more harm than good in the long run since swing development can't happen because you can't tell how the ball is reacting to the basic swing? Hitting it straight in the short run when in reality bad swing habits are formed?

i go with the thought that if i start to hook the ball like what happened after i had a lesson with the pro and he made my grip stronger. so i reduced the gap from 2 toe 14 heel (12 gap), to 2 toe 8 heel (6 gap) this has seem to work. if i hook now its because i have over strengthened my grip, if i slice then that is just a bad bad swing. its just like putting lead tap on any of your clubs, its there to help but easier to alter as i make changes to my grip/swing and the ball flight alters dramatically then i will move the weights around

Another question about MWT.

It does seem like it will make a difference for drivers....but does it make sense for fairwaywoods? Seems like you would want it to be neutral.

What is the thought regarding MWT for fairwaywoods?

I have the R7 425 (Grafaloy Tour Blue Shaft) as well. I tend to have a natural draw so I was more concerned with high or low settings. When I first took it to the driving range I played with different settings and settled on the neutral high. As for the fairway woods, I think the proper shaft is more important than moving weights.

i have an r7 425, and i have mine set for a slight draw, high launch. Mine is 8.5* so the high launch gives mea perfect ball flight.. and my natural ball flight is a fade so the slight draw brings it straight to a slight draw. I also have an r7 tp 3 wood, and i have it set to a slight draw too

I've dabbled with the weights (R7 425 10.5*, R7 Ti 3 wood) - i hit the ball quite high and i find the optimum setting for my swing is neutral/high. Some college team-mates said i should change it to the low setting so I currently have that - it's very windy here and the holes we play are v long in winter!

I've always been a fader so i've never tried changing it to a fade bias - but i find the draw bias to be very useful on some holes at my local course. I would say that if you are a striker of the ball you will benifit from moving the weights. I know myself that they don't always come out of the centre of the clubface so i don't get worked up about the weights.

I'm most comfortable hitting a 5-10 yard fade with the high/neutral bias - when im striking it well this will work on any hole so why change it?

3-wood-wise - i have 2:12 combo, draw bias. Perfect - i can hit it both ways still but the normal shot is a little draw off the bunkers on the right :)

I play with r5 with the weights towards a fade. I have a tendency to draw the ball too much and this helps control my draw. I feel the weight help keep the face from closing at impact for me. Lead tape use to do the same thing before Taylor Made came up with the weight adjustments.

I dont play a fairway wood i just hit driver or a 19* rescue, but i am going to look at getting a 15*wood to fill the gap, after Christmas. For the fairway woods i would tend to agree with koadog71 that getting the right shaft would be the best way to go for getting the trajectory desired . I have not given the shape draw/fade much thought.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
