I am a amateur player looking to improve my game. I want a forgiving driver that has low spin and a medium flight. I have a 80 to 90 per hour  Clubhead speed  and seem to have best results with a 10.5 loft and regular shaft. I  have seen a lot of raving reviews about the bomb tech grenade and I have talked to their customer service and it has been fantastic. I have also swing the Callaway XR 16 and was impressed by its feel as well as it's forgiveness. So basically I am deciding between the bomb tech grenade and the xr16

I've heard good things about both of them. I will say the CG is lower and slightly more forward for the XR16. You probably see lower spin and lower launch with the XR16 than with the grenade depending on the shaft you get.

Thanks for the reply! So what is they are both regular stiffness and 10.5 loft?

It depends on the golf shaft. There is no industry standard on golf shaft flex. A regular flex could well be a stiff flex in a different make an model.

Do you think there will be a massive difference between the drivers? Cause the bomb tech is 220 and the callaway is 350

I can't say. I never tested them both. Even then, my swing is not your swing.

I always tell people go get fit, but that's tough if you are buying the Grenade Driver. I would say just call them and see what they say. They might have more insight on how their club fits with your swing.

After being fit at Dicks, I went with the XR 16. Absolutely love it!!

It's really a better decision to go and get fit -- and you can certainly go into a fitter with the notion "I am going to buy XYZ club, let's find the right loft settings/shaft for me."

For what it's worth, my younger brother recently got fit into a Callaway XR 16 (of all major brands) for his Drive, Chip, and Putt competition. The XR 16 is set at 12.5 degrees and was the only thing he could actually launch, after fitting it with a very lightweight and high launch shaft (according to the fitter)

My only thought on this thread is whether the bomb tech 220 to the callaway 350 is the reason the bomb tech is being considered.  There is probably nothing wrong with the driver, but it is tough to buy one without hitting it first and being able to compare it to other drivers. FWIW, I picked up a Demo G30 in great shape for $150 earlier this year.  I ended up passing it on to our son, when I went with a Cobra Fly Z XL for around $100 new.

There are a lot of used or last year's models out there for a lot less and I can't say whether or not the bomb tech is any newer in design than previous offerings from other OEMs.

Go and hit the bomb tech. I could not get over how awful it sounds.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
