I stretch a fair amount before a range session. Then warm up with some chips and wedge shots. I don't consciously try to swing all out, I try to keep it at 75-80% effort. That's optimal for me for distance AND control. Like others I keep it at an hour max with frequent breaks. Too much, too fast, too hard I'll strain my back and be sore and I won't improve anything. Putting is a part of range time so if I really want to spend longer it will be on the putting green and chipping

I have spent many years in fitness and I am no doctor, but may I suggest in many cases it comes from a weak core. I was working with a high school golf team last week and I asked them what muscles they use to pick up the ball and out of 20 golfers, only one said the core. The rest said the back, the legs or the arms. I thought to myself if these young men do not  use their core muscles now what are they going to be like at 40. We must engage our stomach muscles to protect our back from over use and when we have pain, that is our body telling us something and we need to listen.

Probably a combination of a weak core + simply too much work.

Getting the core engaged is a cliche but compound lifts are very effective in teaching how to properly use the core. Generic ab exercises(crunches etc.) are not as effective.

Also if you think about it hitting 40 balls is a lot of work if you're going for every swing. No one would go to the gym expecting to lift 40 singles at 100% of max in an hour. There's a difference yes but you get point.
